The most recent draining of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool has made President Trump’s claims of “vandalism” all the more doubtful.

The president made this claim after the “American Flag Blue” paint began to peel off in massive chunks and discolor the water, attributing the failed renovation to a “350-foot gash, made by a very sharp knife or razors.” Yet Monday’s draining revealed no such thing, only what appeared to be tire marks—likely from the president’s motorcade driving through the empty pool in May.

No one is buying this. In June, the president said that this so-called “gash” was just 250 feet long. Then it changed to 300 feet, 350 feet, and finally, 300 yards long, the size of three football fields. And yet all that has been revealed in this recent draining is what resembles tire marks, most likely left by the president himself, not vandals with box cutters. And to make matters worse, this failed vanity project has cost American taxpayers over $14 million

I don’t believe that driving across the Reflecting Pool would qualify as an official duty of the President of the United States and therefore would not qualify for the blanket immunity the Supreme Court granted. So could he, personally, be sued for the damage he caused?

The question remains, why did they do this?

The best answer I can give, with my years of objectivity gathered data, is that the president is both very stupid, and a malignant narcissist.

      Hope this helps.

Well see that’s the thing about that area, it’s designed so people can easily walk around. So in order to check out how the construction is going, you naturally have to form a motorcade and drive through the construction, as opposed to like, walking out of the White House during lunch one day and going down to look at it.

Growing up I remember people disagreeing with Clinton and Bush, but like dudes were still taking jogs around D.C./parks or bike riding around for exercise.

It seems crazy to think they couldn’t just put the old butter in a golf cart and drive him by real quick, like sure the secret service would still run with or w.e, but unless they really think every minute of every day someone is waiting outside the White House for the one time he comes outside to get him it seems overkill.

Also if we got rid of the secret service and made all of our positions take public transit everywhere, politicians would focus more on helping as much of the population as they can instead of focusing on specific shareholders who will prop their campaigns.

Reportedly, he wanted to “inspect” it - but only by driving over it, not, y’know, actually getting out and looking at it or anything.

Btw, in case you haven’t heard, he’s building a helipad on the South Lawn of the White House. Because, y’know, he hasn’t caused enough damage to the place already.

I’m sure the inspection was the pretext he gave. But we all know he did that because he thought it would look good for the cameras.

Or he just thought it would be fun to drive on a national monument. He does strike me as someone who gets a kick out of getting away with doing things most people wouldn’t be allowed to do.

Trying to explain why Trump does anything is a fruitless endeavor. Yet somehow he repeatedly manages to fail upwards.

I think further that needs to be noted though, the motorcade and claims of “a knife” are both moot… The shoddy work from the get go for this no bid contract is the actual thing to blame. If I recall actual pool experts have said over and over again that, were the job done anything close to right, that neither knives nor armored cars should have damaged it… the fact is they just threw on one cheap slap of paint in one layer, on something that should have had several layers worth. Or they could have just left it as it was and not made everything 100x worse.

I don’t know about other folks, but speaking for myself I am getting absolutely firehosed with incessant disturbing news on a daily, sometimes hourly basis as my country faces becoming the world’s largest authoritarian sweatshop.

I literally don’t remember seeing this at all.

But if I did, it’s not surprising to me that I forgot about it. The orange chancre driving across his own freshly painted narcissist’s folly was probably the least harmful/obscene/amoral/anti-human thing that putrescent fuck did with my tax dollars that day.

No, I did not see this before today. Including in various articles about the damn pool.

I should have known, but it’s still unbelievable he has a quote saying the pool is industructible and can’t be cut with a knife. THEN he proceeds to charge “Antifa” for cutting the pool?! Of COURSE he was guilty of fucking it up back in May. The guy’s lies are so transparent it’s kind of refreshing. What’s fucked up is the system being totally fucking broken and letting this guilty piece of shit keep making an ass out of America.

Of course it was him. But since he has poisoned the entire discussion of the thing with claims about razors that “made” algae grow that has been promoted to actual, normal discussion, it doesn’t even remotely matter to his people that he was the one who fucked it up, be cause it’s impossible for him to do anything wrong. He has very strongly and powerfully flooded the zone with shit, and 30% of everybody in this country is performatively bragging about how much of that shit they can fit into their mouths. They can barely speak to each other their mouths are so full of shit.
