For years, California lawmakers and transit leaders have requested billions of dollars from the federal government to temporarily double L.A.’s bus fleet and support public transportation for the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics.
Those calls have grown increasingly desperate in recent months, with Los Angeles Metro saying time is running out to execute its plans.
Now, the transportation agency says that if it doesn’t get a guarantee that the money is secured by the end of the year, it won’t provide the extra buses. Instead, it would leave private Olympics organizing committee LA28 to come up with a new plan.
How about make better public transit? LA is famous for horrible traffic.

That being said, transit in LA, like much of the US, is 3rd world. It’s embarrassing how poor our infrastructure is for anything other than planes and cars, and much of the car infrastructure is falling grossly behind
I mean, just for example, Salt Lake County in Utah built out their public transit including trains and trolleys (called Trax) for the Olympics. Those Olympics actually generated a net profit and Trax has continued to expand after the fact.
I’m glad I no longer live there, but that was the one good thing that came from that hellhole and the corrupted Olympic games. LA has (or should have) much more money than SLC, and desperately needs public transit even more than SLC does.
LA is pretty stupid to be expecting any favors from the feds while It is in office. They should be calling Sacramento and using a portion of the funds to improve existing infrastructure, not just for temporary bus rentals.
