I’ve been using Steam since Half Life 2. It says 19 years.

In that (19 years!) I’ve never felt the need to use any other client or game store. They do the job, reliably, without screwing me, and seem to provide the best marketplace they can. Hell, I don’t even hate their profiling and recommendations too much, idiotic tho it may be, at least it doesn’t intrude too much and I can filter it. In short, for a corporate giant, I like em.

And then there’s things I hate.

  • I fukin hate ubisoft. full stop. fukem.
  • I fukin hate bethesesda creation club.

GOG sells two things I want.

  • Far Cry 2 without Punkbuster. The last good game from Ubi. I currently run this by installing it, making a Steam shortcut to the executable, and killing the punkbuster install task. PITA.

  • Fallout 4 without Creation Club. They fukin ruined it. Gawd. I had a universe going there.

Now to the question. I’m not asking if I should get a GOG account. Ya, that seems sorta inevitable now, given what I’ve read about their mission.

I own both of these games, original-way-back-when version, on Steam.

Do I really need to buy them on GOG to get them clean?
