One of the largest companies in the world pivoted their entire branding and wasted tens of billions of dollars on a failed attempt to become basically a game dev/publisher.

The cynic in me wants to say that Facebook’s foray into VR was a resounding success in that it propped up their stock price until the next fad/grift could come along and take it’s place.

Boomers, as we all know, are extremely tech literate, and in tune with modern digital culture.
… when it comes to the ‘metaverse’, they pretty much could not have picked something they were more clueless about.
As I said in another comment… VRChat already existed, when the Meta transition happened.
They spent tens of billions of dollars and couldn’t figure out how to even match VRChat.
If Facebook wanted to try and do the Metaverse… they should have just bought VRChat, figure out some way to patent-fuck them into accepting that.
That way there would at least not be an alternative to go to after they ruin it.

They should’ve done all initial meetings about the metavers in VR chat to see if it was such s great idea. But I guess there was a much fatter paycheck in it for saying the classics words: “Great idea boss!”

He’s a lottery winner who digitized a concept proven to work with paper. This is all of Silicon Valley. They were out of ideas years ago to convince people to adopt, so now the model is force people to adopt.
You know zillion may be a fun word to write, but when writing a news article I think using real numbers might be more helpful.
