  • I forage mushrooms. I think there is both a healthy fear and an overreaction to how dangerous it really is. A novice can forage for something like chicken of the woods because it is an obvious species that has no deadly lookalikes. However there are mushrooms even I still avoid despite knowing exactly what they are because they have poisonous lookalikes.

What’s really surprising is people seem to think foraging plants to be safer despite there being plants with edible lookalikes like poison hemlock that can kill in minutes.

In the end, a little bit of practice, focus, and understanding safety, mushroom foraging, and plant foraging, is actually much less dangerous than one would imagine. Still, if you don’t know what you are doing you should never eat a mushroom or plant that you aren’t 100% certain is what it is. Never munch on a hunch.

  • I switched from windows 10 to pop!_os on my thinkpad p15s almost a year ago. My biggest surprise was thinking I would still need windows for anything when I haven’t needed to think about it since.

The most frustrating part is that I’m requires to use windows 11 for work and it just feels so broken. But in all seriousness the biggest issues I’ve had were a couple driver issues that were easily fixed from the debug.

Honestly my biggest regret was not switching sooner. The learning curve really wasn’t bad. Just read the forums and docs. I run it on everything now. I game with it, I run a small homelab with it, I’m productive with it. I dont think there is anything I would miss. Everything works as well if not even better.

  • The thing is too that mushrooms don’t even cook like vegetables or even like a protein or anything. So not only are they not botanically vegetables, they aren’t even culinarily vegetables either.

Also if you don’t like mushrooms because of the texture, you’re probably cooking your mushrooms wrong.

  • Not to mention many Israeli citizens are in the IDF which makes a lot of them legal targets under international law. which obviously not to excuse war crimes on either side which have occurred but idk how you look at the situation and see anything other than a seriously disproportionate number of the war crimes including genocide by Israel.

No one was killed at Freie Universität. You can keep making up scenarios where protestors are killing people but again where are you priorities? That kids shouldn’t protest by occupying university building? That’s a historical way university students have protested. It brought pressure to end Vietnam and south African apartheid in my country.

I’m not your enemy. I just want you to know you are being closed minded. I understand violence is sometimes something that pops up in these moments, but you’re missing the bigger picture. And why do you need to make fantastical scenarios when there are children being starved to death right now? What are you even trying to argue? That we should be genocidong Palestinians that we should ban students from occupying buildings at their university? I mean I think it’s just odd that you can excuse killing of brown children in far away places but you can’t excuse a janitor sho got injured in an occupation in protest of that genocide. It’s just one sided and you should just think about it is all.
