The quality of their hardware is very high and reminds me of macbook pros that I’ve had in the past. They test their laptops on Ubuntu, so if you choose to have that preinstalled you know that everything will just work. I’ve run Debian and Fedora on mine and both have been fine too. The other good things in my book are that they use Coreboot which is an open source bios and their customer support is excellent.
You should look at getting a laptop from Starlabs with Ubuntu preinstalled on it.

2·20 小时前No probs :) You will love Geeqie then! Learn (or set) the basic shortcuts and a progressive marking/rating workflow and you’ll be flying. I used to absolutely hate culling but now it’s my favourite part of the process!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do old people still remember their childhood? Do people just start losing their memories and their sense of self as they get older?
2·20 小时前This is a good question and I’ll be interested to see what others have to say. One thing I’ve noticed is that memories can transform into ‘memories of memories’. What I remember is not the felt impression of something but what I subsequently told or showed myself about it. And it doesn’t even just apply to childhood - I have same thing for big events in my life from last couple of years.
I do find that it’s possible to consciously dig deeper and unearth forgotten memories though.
I’ll also add that I think what constitutes a sense of ‘self’ is more than just memory.

14·2 天前Just to put it out there: There are some excellent options for a linux-native photography stack which also work on windows and mac if you’re interested in trying those out before switching. Darktable and Rawtherapee are both excellent raw developers and Digikam for library management and light editing. You should find that you can pass files between each for a seamless workflow. If you did switch to Linux you would also get Geeqie which is blazing fast for inspecting, culling and rating raw files and is also interoperable with the above apps.
A really good resource for FOSS and Linux photography is pixls.us

Your shadowy plots are the most shadowy that the world has ever known. It’s never been seen before. One could say that they are unprecedented. Historic even.

The nuclear warheads are actually made in Berkshire. The ‘delivery systems’ i.e missiles they are mounted on and the surrounding tech often comes from the states and gets sent back there for refurbishment and testing every few years. The UK could do a lot of damage with what it already has in stock before needing to get more. I agree that the US should be cut out of all important supply chains though.
