Why is there always someone like you in the comments. Why would you use qt apps in a gtk environment anyway?

Android@lemmy.world•Google will now publish new source code to the Android Open Source Project twice per year, down from releasing source code for every quarterly Android releaseEnglish
1·24 days agoCustom roms will have more issues with this. Manufacturers like Samsung have deals with Google and will have access to the sources more often. Custom roms won’t have this access. I personally went back to the stock Pixel rom, and rooted it to still have acces to all of my modifications through Magisk modules and such while being able to stay up to date.
So it’s hard on some phones. Lineage OS support also isn’t any indication of how hard it is to unlock. The more popular devices are all easy to unlock.
That’s just confirming it’s generally extremely simple.

Android@lemmy.world•It appears Google has stopped publishing device-specific source code for Pixel phonesEnglish
1·8 months agoWhich would help how? If they are really going to make it much more difficult for custom roms it doesn’t matter what phone you choose.

Linux@lemmy.world•Linux isn't (just) better, it's also more FUN!English
2·9 months agoI’ve used nodm for something similar. I used to show my homeassistant dashboard on it using a kiosk session in chromium in a nodm session. It does require some fiddling, but it does the job perfectly.
For games you could also add them to Steam and use proton if the game is supported, but lutris should be pretty straight forward, it was for me anyway, in Ubuntu.
Still, Linux can be a challenge in terms of non supported games.

2·10 months agoSecurity is definitely a concern, so replacing it is recommended. I’m not sure about other browsers compatible with Chrome extensions though.

Linux@lemmy.world•Chrome OS switching to the Android Linux kernel and related Android subsystems – OSnewsEnglish
1·2 years agoWhy not use Android in the first place then? I mean, it works fine on pretty much any device.
If you use swap (excluding hibernation) it means you need more ram.
The kernel used by Android is Linux, just like the kernel used by PiOS.

Linux@lemmy.world•Anyone tried blendOS with microsoft surface?English
1·2 years agoGreat! Used Arch for a while, with KDE. I’m now using Debian with Gnome permanently.

Linux@lemmy.world•Anyone tried blendOS with microsoft surface?English
2·2 years agoI’m not familiar with Blend OS, but if your goal is being able to run Android apps you can also install Waydroid yourself in multiple distro’s. I’m running Debian with Gnome on my Surface Go 2 using the Surface kernel and Waydroid with Gapps. It runs really well.

Gnome@discuss.tchncs.de•Gnome multitouch gestures on touchscreen also trigger a left clickEnglish
2·2 years agoThanks but that doesn’t really help. The gestures do work fine, it’s just that they also cause random things to be clicked when using gestures on a touchscreen.

Can’t you change to a normal user with become? We do lots of stuff with Ansible as normal user. You should be able to create tasks that get executed as normal user and install yay and run makepkg, and then run yay to install packages.

2·2 years agoThat’s bullshit, it’s still free for the normal lts support. Only if you want support after that you’ll have to pay, or upgrade to the next version for free.

2·2 years agoIt’s because most banks support Google Pay instead of using their own app. It’s perfectly possible for banks to not use Google Pay. A few banks here don’t support Google Pay, instead you have to download their app to use nfc payments.

Why not? It’s possible, the user likes it, so that’s a win. I use MP3Tag under Wine. It’s pretty basic and even though there are native Linux alternatives I still use it like this. Nobody’s gonna tell me how I have to use my system.
