Check out GL.iNet products. They’re all based on OpenWrt with a more beginner-friendly GUI on top. (LuCi can be installed via a few clicks.) And very affordable. Some can be flashed to vanilla OpenWrt as well.

I did it for a while but my system was constantly busy and there was this controversy about the image cache and possible CSAM which then prompted me to switch to using the flagship instance. Haven’t tried any of the alternatives, though.

This GitHub and the README in there say otherwise. Also the fact that I’ve got it running locally. 😉

Same here. Once in a while I update the config with all the changed engines. But that’s about it.

The problem is that wireless CarPlay works via WiFi. And your car only has 1 wifi module. So, it’s either providing a hotspot or wireless CarPlay. You could try whether it makes a difference connecting your phone via cable.

I believe the Merge button was removed on some recent update. I can’t see it anymore either.

I’ve never received any info about whether my suggestions were actioned on. And I haven’t checked (can’t remember which ones I suggested).

You need to decide on one master item where all others are to be merged into. Copy its URL.

In the left column at the bottom is a link to edit entries. If an entry hasn’t had any reviews/comments yet, there should be a merge button at the top right (in the edit screen). Paste the URL and merge it.

If it HAD comments/reviews, click the “Suggest edit” button and select “merge” and paste the link of the destination item. Then, it’s up to the admin to have it merged later.

The original sources are not, of course. But Kagi News are AI-summaries. However, because every source is linked, you can easily search the original articles for more details.

I’m currently evaluating Kagi News. They have an RSS feed for each category, so you can define what you want to get news about. It merges the same news from multiple sources into one and gives a nice overview with links to all sources.

And it only updates once a day which simulates getting a classic newspaper. So you don’t end up checking your newsreader all day long.

You could add the podcast to NeoDB and link there. While the item pages aren’t properly federated, all the user comments and ratings are.

UI/UX seems to be a nightmare though, plus missing software

I’d be fine with just a shell prompt if there was a usable keyboard to type in commands. Similar to a BlackBerry Classic. I’d just write shell scripts to do all the things I like to do.

I also like the idea behind the Planet Computer devices. But I rarely need to do serious work while out and about nowadays to be willing to lug around such brick.
