  • going off a bit of a tangent: my mom’s a former nursing assistant who went into debt studying to become an LP-nurse when i was in middle school. as an assistant nurse, she developed arithitis from lifting patients with mobility issues every workday, yet she hasn’t been able to afford a doctor’s appointment in years (or eye care, or dental care). by the book, 2 workers should be lifting patients with proper technique, yet that’s rarely the case due to intentional under-staffing and time constraints.

she usually worked in nursing homes; dressing people, hand feeding them, showering/bathing them, cleaning their excrement, etc. nursing assistants spend the most amount of time with patients, so she made a ton of meaningful connections with them over the years. a lot of patients would (and still do) tell her how they can’t afford treatment or surgery themselves. after a patient passed (some of whom she’d be grieving over), she and a coworker were usually in charge of cleaning their stiffening bodies and lifting them into bags to be sent to the morgue.

assistant nursing (along with regular nursing to an extent) is one of the most dangerous jobs in the US by far, with up to 60% of facing an injury per year (most commonly back injuries). figuratively and literally the backbone of the healthcare industry who work for barely above minimum wage with little direction or support. if anyone has the most reason to [REDACTED] and [REDACTED], it’s them

  • ‘Of course I would accept her help,’ Shanon told DailyMail in an exclusive interview. ‘She hasn’t [offered] it so far. I’m here. I’m okay.’

She said: ‘I would like to make amends with Simone personally – I’m just waiting for her and Adria. I speak to Adria more than I speak to Simone. I would just ask her to forgive me. Can we move forward? Don’t judge me on my past. Let’s move forward.’

impressively tone deaf. doing a tabloid interview and saying “don’t judge me on my past” after your last conversations didn’t work is like the pushiest and least remorseful thing you could do

  • The same shit happened to gen z in like 2016 with leafyishere and Ben Shapiro and all the other anti-SJW shit my middle school classmates had going on. It was a phase for us, hopefully it’s a phase for them too. I watched so many guys in my high school grow out of the edgy conservative stuff and become decent people. I think it’s mainly a young boy with unlimited internet access sorta thing, before college they tend to mature out of it, at least from my experience

Remember a few years ago when reddit was convinced gen z would be more conservative because of polling on like, 13-17 year olds, and a few years later it turned out opposite?

  • I agree the EU sucks but most labour voted remain, and the majority of pro-leave people were right-wing bigots. Brexit would be great under socialism, but that wasn’t and isn’t taking form in a neoliberal hellhole like Britain. Brexit was inherently neoliberal and made the UK even worse

fuck over workers and siphon wealth from the poorer eastern member countries to their wealthier western neighbors

The leave campaign was literally “us British have to siphon our tax money to eastern member countries” because the EU makes its wealthier states give money to its poorer states. That and anti-immigrant, xenophobic, racist rhetoric against both eastern Europeans and non-white immigrants brought in from the EU. Literally just fear mongering open borders for allowing “undesirables” in.
