No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•On an emergency power supply with AC and DC electrical plugs, which do I use to charge or power appliances?
6·2 months agoI have never seen a consumer product that has a 2 or 3 prong plug that expects DC on that plug.
aka
Anything with a 2 or 3 prong plug, as in, anything that plugs into your wall of your house, that will want AC. If the device is powered by like, a USB cable, that’s going to be DC.

Programming@programming.dev•The perils of UUID primary keys in SQLite
3·2 months agolots of people, I use them in certain applications. Not sure I’ve ever had a use case where I needed to memorize the PK of my data, but I suppose if you needed that, then a simply INT might be the choice.
As for sorting/creation related to each other, you can use UUIDv7. The first group of bits is time since epoch. So they naturally sort based on time created. Handy!

Games@sh.itjust.works•Factorio Friday Facts #440 - 2.1 planEnglish
2·3 months agoAlso yes definitely enemy mods. The factorio devs have always been very good about mods, even so much as creating their own mod manager and hosting, instead of using steam workshop

PC Master Race@lemmy.world•Microsoft forced to bring back Surface Laptop with 8GB RAM as it scrambles to keep prices down amidst RAM crisis: New device fails to meet Copilot+ PC requirementsEnglish
101·3 months agoPlus, buying a PC that isn’t Copilot+ PC capable makes little sense these days, as you miss out on features like semantic search, Click To Do, and even Windows Recall.
I have to disagree, I’d pick a PC without copilot any day. 8GB RAM though is not it
Or are the pants grey 🤔

Reddit@lemmy.world•Reddit Starts Blocking Mobile Website, Pushing Users to App Instead
1·3 months agoYa, and same thing with YouTube. Lots of useful knowledge on there, like how to repair some obscure part on some obscure car or whatnot.
Sucks to have to use the platform but all that knowledge is super useful

Reddit@lemmy.world•Reddit Starts Blocking Mobile Website, Pushing Users to App Instead
4·3 months agoFor me it’s just that there’s a lot of knowledge in Reddit comments. Someone asking about some problem, and the comments having some useful answer. So not being able to access those is what will suck for me. Ya sure there are other forums and ways to get info, but if there’s an answer in a Reddit comment I’ll happily read it

3·4 months agoAnecdotally, I know that in my case I use librewolf and it by default disables webgl for privacy reasons. There was a toggle in the settings to turn it on. Unsure if that’s your issue or not but thought I’d mention it.

Gaming@lemmy.zip•Shapez 2 leaves the factory floor today as it launches into 1.0English
3·4 months agoFor sure. Plus they added a new game mode in 1.0 that tries to cater to a subset of their playerbase where the base game did not. So it’s nice to see them paying attention
I just went and checked myself, it’s gone up even further and ya it’s higher than during the 1.0 release

News@lemmy.world•User anger as Amazon ends support for some older Kindles
2·4 months agoThat’s cool! Yea I’ve looked at the Kobo devices. I think for me, the lower cost of the kindle, especially with the ad supported version (which I bypassed by literally never connecting it to Wi-Fi), was a big plus for me at the time. I assume Amazon subsidized some of the cost assuming you’d buy from their store. I just sideloaded all my ebooks of course.
When it dies I’ll definitely be looking for a new option.
Nah, I remember my first car I took it to Best Buy and had them install an Aux cable so I could play music from my phone. Literally never went back to radio. Not to say it’s a bad medium, I just prefer constant music without interruption.

3·4 months agoSuggestions? I still have an early gen kindle (that was ad supported), and I jailbroke it and have been pretty happy with it ever since.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Would it be silly of me to get a small dog if I am a little afraid of bigger ones?
1·4 months agoThis is a great idea imo. As someone who has spent a lot of time volunteering at a shelter you can definitely learn a lot. Especially if they have some actual professionals on staff willing to share their wisdom.
Having a dog on a walk will absolutely increase the likelihood of a stray happening by to approach you though. Not saying that to scare you off or anything, but I think volunteering at the shelter will make you more confident around dogs, hopefully.

I wish listed yours so hopefully that helps the algorithm a tiny little bit
