I tested my car as a hypermiler over thousands of miles on dead flat roads empty of other vehicles, my daily commute was 78miles. The most economical speed was 30mph in 5th gear with cruise control on. For most people that’s not a practical speed for any kind of long journey,but I was getting over 100miles per uk gallon in the summer (hot weather helps with fuel economy, as does not having headlights or ac on). I got through so many audiobooks driving so slowly!

My installers connected the solar inverter to the home WiFi. I soon fixed that by changing the WiFi password, but I also discovered that inside the inverter is a stange-looking metal sim card, very small, but thankfully removable. I removed it. No-one is mucking about with my setup! (Except me 😀)

Why don’t all food service places have you pay when you order? It works like that in the uk in more than half of places and the establishment can’t suffer any loss.

The human body can stand very fast speeds, but it can’t cope with acceleration. To reach high speed you have to accelerate HARD. Otherwise it’s weeks and months just to get moving quickly. And don’t get me started on slowing down when you get there…

Are they working all through the night? One man working 40 hours a week with no sickness but including 5 weeks holidays per year works 1880 hours. A year of hours is 8760.

I used to have a 20 mile commute four times a day on dead flat roads. I bought a super-efficient car (skoda fabia greenline} and played with the speeds and gears to my hearts content to find the scientifically most efficient speed to use the least fuel. The result was that the slowest speed the car could maintain in the highest gear was most efficient. That was 30mph in 5th. I would usually average over 100 miles per gallon of diesel. Spent a lot more time in the car than i would have at 60mph, but audiobooks are great. This doesn’t add much to the discussion here. 60mph is much better than 70mph, and i’ve driven in wales with the 20mph limit in all urban areas and it doesn’t seem to cause any problems - i’m totally in favour.

I did the maths on this a good while back, and worked out that an average lightning bolt contained around 50 UK pounds worth of electricity, maybe 70 US Dollars. (Thats at the price as purchased by a householder, not wholesale). The cost of storing that, and collecting it, combined with the unpredicitability of the strikes, makes the whole scheme a non-starter. Sorry.

Ive always thought the best way to escape would be to tap the brakes suddenly so the police car slams into the back of the car its chasing just hard enough to damage its radiator. The police car would overheat within a short distance. Would that work?

I refused to carry the plastic cards for years, but google wallet allows you to add the barcode/qr code from a friend/stranger/family’s card or phone screen, for any shop. You then get the instant discount at the checkout but won’t accumulate the later ‘points’- but your accomplice will! There are webpages online containing the barcodes if you are really privacy-conscious. I have b&q, sainsburys, morrisons, tesco and co-op stored this wsy. Some shops are introducing apps too - still a line i won’t cross yet.

So if I want one lettuce which only has a short shelf life, but there is a buy one get one free deal, I’d be stupid not to pick up two. Because I can only eat one lettuce before it goes bad, the second lettuce will be binned before its even started. All buy one get one free deals should be banned - if you want us to buy more of a product, halve the price!
