  • they don’t actually understand it. My guess is that if someone is interested in learning quantum mechanics they would talk about more niche things within the field than superposition and/or entanglement.

    similarly, when someone talks to me about the concept of calculus, that’s not what interests me. When I think of discussions in calculus I think of how gauss proved that for any 3 dimensional surface there is no 2 dimensional projection of it without distorting some areas of it. Hence why there is no perfect 2 dimensional representation of our globe, It’s been mathematically proven you can’t have a perfect map of earth. Theorems Egregium



  • I think he doesn’t understand “anti-ai”

    rhetorical question: when you’re anti-*, do you go out and do the thing you’re against? Like if you’re anti-smoking, do you go out and smoke a big fat vape? No, you do not. In other terminology, we call that hypocrisy.

    I’d say the majority of people’s reasons against AI isn’t just about the environmental impact but the offloading of your cognitive and mental ability, why would someone be anti-ai and still use ai when it directly hinders the ability to cognitively think in the first place.

    Anyways, the reason I’m pointing this out, is if you’re anti-ai, the philosophy assumes you don’t use LLM’s in the first place. So when someone asks this (redundant) question of “can you work without chatgpt?” or “if chatgpt disappeared, would you still be able to get through the day?” I’ve already been doing it.

    I can get through my day without using chatGPT. It’s a tool for the briefest of my circumstances (mostly for tedious work), and I could do my day without using it and without hindering my performance.

    The entire premise developing agi isn’t about a “new scientific breakthrough” as much as it is a way to surveil and profile people.

    with web search, you have the option to opt out of cookies, which basically doesn’t allow trackers to track you on websites. were not even taking into account adblockers such as UblockOrigin or privacy badger, which has been an ongoing war with big tech.

    Anyways, with LLM’s, they have control of your prompts, they have access to your account and they can target advertisements or sell your data to the highest bidder.

    So, when google announced that search will be depreciated and replaced with their Gemini AGI, that to me was the first real indicator that their intentionally making search shitty to boost usage of their AI.

    Just to make a point, there is a surplus of these non officially supported (from OS developers) repositories, such as the terra repository for fedora. It has the same vulnerability as AUR, and yet that is targeted for new users.

    Much like how fedora doesn’t officially support Terra, arch doesn’t support AUR. There is a reason why it’s called AUR (arch user repository) over ASR (arch supported repository). AUR entails that it is not supported by arch.

    but yea the naming convention of “imaginary numbers” is pretty bad, we did the same thing for negative numbers (we called it imaginary) when people couldn’t comprehend of a negative quantity.

    negative numbers are defined from a conservative system, basically a gain/loss relationship: if I have 2 apples and I give away 1 to a friend, I have 1 apple left, that loss – that apple I gave to a friend – is the negative quantity. For imaginary numbers, we don’t really have a way to comprehend an imaginary quantity; what does it mean that I have sqrt(-1) apples.

    thinkpads are rapidly depreciative. They approximately depreciate linearly compared to a theoretically and practically non-depreciative product; The longer they are used (or just held in stock), the cheaper they become. I’ve found used thinkpads that are worth the same amount for a same spec’d framework motherboards. until integrated circuits become cheaper your just purchasing a more expensive thinkpad that’s easier to understand (from an upgrade perspective) for the user.
