I get the appeal of a home cooked meal, but that doesn’t automatically mean that going to a restaurant is a bad option. Also I don’t get the entitlement, where do their expectations come from?

Yep that pretty much hits home.
Were Soviet era restaurants so bad that they all prefer home cooked? Or were they unaffordable for the average citizen back then? Or was it just a social norm to cook food for your guests?

They usually cook when I come over, I guess now they expect me to return the favor

I get it, but on the other hand I don’t want to spend half of my birthday in the kitchen

I get the sense that it’s very common or at least used to be common in Soviet Union to always invite your friends to your home and treat them to home made meals when there was something to celebrate. It seems that going out to restaurants used to be not an option for whatever reason, but I can only guess.
Don’t talk to me or my son ever again

German here, usually fluent enough to understand movies and tv shows unless the characters have poor pronunciation or a heavy accent. Also old english Shakespearean fancy words sometimes give me trouble. I consume most media (YouTube, games, etc) in English.

Indeed I am very grateful for not having to do physical labor, especially during childhood

Well not entirely true. We pay 9~10% out of our gross salary for this service
That’s how vampire mafia works
Short term: new shoes! I ordered them online, they should arrive any day now. Looking forward to having something nice to wear in the summer.
Mid term: forging our wedding rings! We have a workshop coming up in a couple weeks where we’ll be forging our very own rings under supervision of a professional jeweler. Jewelry is a very lovely thing on it’s own, even more so when I’ll be creating them from scratch together with my partner - the love of my life.
Long term: our wedding next year! There’s still so much preparation to be done and so much money to save up until then, as well as the honeymoon right after that. It’s all very exciting!!
I’m out of the loop. What happened?
What a precious little floof!

Idk death and dementia don’t seem like a feasible solution to me
