  • It seems like you see politics as a game of Rock Paper Scissors, but it’s not as simple as that.

    Will Starmer automatically win against Farage? There’s certainly no evidence to suggest that so far.

    I wouldn’t even say Burnham is particularly left wing; maybe against Farage but that’s not saying much.

    Not that being left wing is inherently a vote loser. A lot of political popularity is down to personality, which Starmer doesn’t have but Burnham does (in comparison).















  • True. “Quality of life” is a bit of a weird measurement if they aren’t using it as a shorthand for “purchasing power”, as it can be pretty subjective.

    Like you said, the local amenities where you live can really add to “quality of life”. I can walk to a pub, nature reserve, cafe, supermarket, school, or a bunch of other places within a 10 minute walk. I can cycle to work in 20 minutes.

    That is fairly common in the UK and I’d think is pretty uncommon in the US.
