Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why do people who try to convince others to switch to metric focus so much on the conversions?
41·9 days agoI actually do conversions on the regular but than again I live in Europe so I use the metric system and all conversions are base 10 so it is super easy. Take distance for example:
- 0.5 km
- 500 m
- 50 000 cm
- 500 000 mm Etc…
I would not say that men tend towards extreme porn. I would say part of it is platforms serving the more extreme kinks to their viewers and part of it is getting desensatised by watching pornography for years.
If the 360 generation is retro than what is the playstation 2 generation or Windows 95/98 and Ps1 generation? Let alone the Super Nintendo generation.

2·15 days agoI get that but there is no armed civil resistance towards the government yet. It is still at the stage where the citizens are resisting peacefully.
Yes I love winter and I love being outside during winter, I imagine I would have a whole other perspective if I couldn’t afford to heat my home.

6·17 days agoMy biggest problem with Linux is security. I want a relatively idiot proof setup like in Microsoft and Apple products. I do not to have to minutely setup the firewall or have to go into the terminal to run a virus scan.
Other than that I am not too demanding of my system I nearly never have a problem although recently the game A Hat in Time makes my pc kernal panic.

151·17 days agoAt what point have we betrayed Ukraine? European countries are very far from perfect but we did not betray Ukraine, sure we could have done more but at this point only the European Union is footing the bill for the war. I do not see China, India, Brazil, South Africa or Japan for example sending billions in aid to Ukraine, let alone Trump.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Those of you who are angry at the US for allowing ICE to stifle people's liberties (including me) - how do you channel your anger and irritation?
2·23 days agoI would say start barricading their headquarters so they can’t get out as a sign of protest. If necessary start helping immigrants hide from the authorities.
Although yes you can cycle succesfully. It doesn’t show everyone that went flat on their face.
Apparently some companies still have fun.
I am not inherently against “AI”. I am against LLM’s because they are both an ecological disaster and a social disaster.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Maybe the RAM shortage will make software less bloated?
14·1 month agoNaaaah, you are just going to have to run it in the cloud optimised by AI for the low low price of both your kidneys so Bezos, Mark and Elon can continue partying.
I hope we will see the fruits of that labour, not that I could afford a pc to run the eventual game.
