Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is your favourite open source software that you discovered in the past year, that you can no longer live without?English
3·1 year agoAmazing journaling/personal information managment software. I love that once you understand how it works, you can journal however you like and it “maps” out how your connect concepts. Not exaggerating when I say it helped me piece a lot of concepts and personal themes together

Uplifting News@lemmy.world•Internet picks “werewolf clawing off its own shirt” as new Michigan “I Voted” stickerEnglish
6·1 year agoMany of my peers and I (1995-1999 ish) have to fight against the urge to be apathetic despite having supposedly progressive views. Personally, a lot of these “issues” should be no brainers (gun control please). If it’s not mandatory and nothing seems to change, why bother?
This sticker legitimately made my morning and would definitely get me and any friends I shared with it out to vote for the “memes” if we lived in Michigan. It’s hilarious
Was curious about this game and sent a request. No biggie if it doesn’t work but just wanted to say thanks for doing this, especially in such a clear polite manner :)
I don’t really have a stake in this race because it’s quite a dilemma (personally I like the idea of Graphene supporting more devices with varying security promises) but I’d imagine between buying a 2nd hand Pixel or exclusively using Google services, Google would rather people do the latter.
They simply make more out of data gathering and GrapheneOS sidessteps that, so as a user I’m leaning towards the former so I can more readily degoogle myself.

8·2 years agoSpiritually, I’m with you brother but Veronica is clearly a brunette here. I appreciate sticking with aesthetics even if I disagree.
They’re both absolutely adorable here

People Twitter@sh.itjust.works•Even in the slowest laneEnglish
292·2 years agoin some cities such as LA, i found it safest to simply drive at the same speed as everyone else. obviously adjust for merging, passenger lanes etc but on those roads being the slowest can actually a danger to yourself and others.
glad i don’t need to do this any more in my current city, just two cents

Fuck Cars@lemmy.ml•The real reason suburbs were built for carsEnglish
0·2 years agoexactly, not everyone has time to stop everything and watch a random 20 minute video from a thread based on essentially “trust me bro”
especially with a vague and borderline clickbait title. To prove a point, I’m going to watch it at some point and I can almost guarantee i can either summarise it or provide a synopsis.

7·2 years agoThere was a time when the Google apps just worked, the applications were optimised for UX. Maybe I’ve just only noticed it now but the directions (and assistant in general) aren’t as useful, reliable, and filled with sponsored stuff.
what do you use for navigation and how does it compare?

13·2 years agoFrom what I can tell, this was a climate change protest in response to the 2020 bushfires in Aus. Looks likes that’s scomo’s face on the sign but could be wildly wrong.
edit: sorry wrong year
Only started running relatively recently so it’s not first thing in the morning but it’s a habit. I needed a way to “warm up” for the day and be physically active.
Aside from the general hype of “it feels great” “healthy” yada yada, it gets to a point where you feel uneasy not running. Like after training my legs, they want to go for a run and be used.
You need to account for having time (sleeping early and getting up early with naps during the day) and slowly conditioning but the most important thing is consistency. Only evaluating based on your previous efforts rather than comparing to others.
legit and respect, gotta take all the advantages you can get.

Technology@lemmy.world•World's first wooden satellite built by Japan researchersEnglish
26·2 years agoFrom the article.
The creators expect the wooden material will burn up completely when the device re-enters the atmosphere—potentially providing a way to avoid the generation of metal particles when a retired satellite returns to Earth.
These metal particles could have a negative impact on the environment and telecommunications, the developers said as they announced the satellite’s completion on Tuesday.

I love reading patch notes and saying to myself “Huh, didn’t know you could do that”.
Can’t believe I’m saying this but keen to be in outer lanes and try the changes.
