  • Thank you for this! HL:Alyx is 100% my first stop and is already in my library. I almost bought the Index just for Alyx.

I am really excited to try all that VR has to offer, but I think as this article alludes to, the options for ways to play my whole library on the frame was what pushed me over the edge. Even if I love VR games, I fully expect to spend more hours playing my other non-VR games on this.

Aesthetically, this is also the closest to the “headset” experience that is in my head from growing up reading Neal Stephenson and William Gibson. It is certainly the first headset I have seen that feels like an actual computer on my head, both in terms of the tech itself and Valve’s approach to ownership.

I’m quivering in anticipation, to be honest.

Wait until you hear Christian Emo Music.

Which I can confirm exists, and in similar strata to the mainstream too. Eg, Dear Ephesus would be closer to the 2nd wave like SDRE whereas the Juliana Theory is closer to the pop emo of Jimmy Eat World or even The Getup Kids, and then I’m sure the third wave (glam emo that bled into scene kids à la MCR) is represented too but I’d peaced out by then.

  • This is interesting and I’m glad to see this. I’ve always been an avid reader and until recently, I could read words on a page for hours on end but really could not sustain my attention to an audiobook for more than a few minutes, and always felt like my retention was very poor when I tried listening to books. But that was always a me thing.

My brother and wife have both been avid audiobook readers for a number of years and I always picked up on them feeling mildly insecure about it, as if they weren’t “really” reading when it was an audiobook.

Oddest of all, in the past year or so, my brain has completely flipped and now I mainly read via audiobook and text on a page can’t hold my attention for long.
