  • I think that people with access to higher education who also have constant access to world news is bound to lead to people not wanting to put their kids through it. If you compare that to someone who barely has access to the internet and whose main focus is trying to feed their family and it’s a whole different situation. Humans need meaning in their lives and in western societies this has been waning for a while now.

  • I agree, uncle Bob does not need AI to make a video of a polar bear shooting an RPG into a house after ringing the door bell. My main issue with AI is that it’s so publicly available that people have started using it for the dumbest shit. Why do you need to constantly ask it stuff? People are truly being ridiculous about it, I have lots of coworkers who barely even write their own emails anymore… I’m even starting to wonder what they do during the day.

There’s great use cases for AI, especially in medicine and other fields. But for commercial use it’s basically useless besides being a gimmick.

  • At my previous job they had a “dealing with overworking” webinar within the first few days I joined. During the webinar it came out that like 75% of the people in my department worked unpaid overtime every week… I only lasted a year there, not for that reason specifically but it was definitely an interesting first impression…

  • I have (idle) hopes that most of the losses will fall on the people that created this mess. I know that’s not what happened in 2008 but one can hope. I’m not into stocks myself so I hope I would be safe when it happens but you never know, I was too young in 2008 to see/feel the full effects of it happening. Maybe I’d be screwed too. But I’d honestly take a few years of things being shitty over the nonsense what’s happening now. I got through covid, I’m sure this would be manageable too, especially since I live in Europe.

  • I agree, I think it’s all about affordability and ease of use. If they can sell them for a nice price (somewhere around the price of a PS5 pro) and they’re easy to use I don’t see a reason why they wouldn’t sell. Hell, I might even buy one myself. I have a very old gaming pc (close to 10 years old now) and even though I’ve replaced some parts over the years (ram, GPU, storage), the core of it is still very outdated and it might almost be cheaper to switch to something like this then to upgrade my existing pc.

  • Go ahead and try but I think moving the dems back to their position during Obama’s presidency will take a mammoth effort by itself, let alone moving them to Mamdani levels of leftism. I would love to see it happen but the rot runs deep, especially at the top. There are so many dems that are heavily entrenched in their positions and as you can see, it only takes a few dems (9 if you include Schumer who most likely came up with this “deal”) to ruin the party holding out in hope of better things.
