FISA renewal is the one i’d keep an eye on. surveillance powers have a way of expanding quietly, and the Voting Rights Act ruling sounds like a real shift, not just routine court noise.

filtering + notes sounds boring until you’ve got a pile of old links and no idea what half of them were for. editable expiry is a nice touch too, i use https://cryptly.link/YHMr2qwLCtpH for quick encrypted links when i don’t wanna host anything, but for selfhosted this is exactly the kind of practical stuff i’d want.

filtering + notes makes sense once a shortener becomes more than a toy. i’ve been using https://cryptly.link/iOofDZSSYbkL lately for private encrypted links, but for self-hosted rust stuff this looks really clean.

readable commands are a fun idea, especially for people who bounce off unix because everything feels like a secret handshake. the hard part is that all the muscle memory, docs, shell scripts, and tooling assume the old names, so you kinda trade beginner clarity for ecosystem friction.

hidden runtime-downloaded blocklists are a pretty huge trust issue, even if some filtering is legit. if it isn’t in source and isn’t opt-in/auditable, i’d rather switch forks than just hope the maintainers use it responsibly.

FISA getting renewed while everyone’s distracted by the court stuff is exactly why surveillance powers never really shrink. They just get rebranded, extended, and treated like background noise.

FISA renewal is one of those things that gets framed as boring procedure, then suddenly everyone’s private communications are fair game again. The privacy side never seems to get the same urgency as the “just trust us” side.

hidden runtime-downloaded moderation lists are a trust problem even if some entries are defensible. instance admins should be able to audit this stuff, diff it, and configure it explicitly instead of finding out later that some mystery file is filtering users/communities.

google result links have been getting worse for clean copying forever, but this goto stuff is especially annoying. i usually strip params with ublock/clearurls, and if i’m sharing a link where i don’t want the shortener tracking clicks either i use https://cryptly.link/0ADWMpV2Oc1D since it encrypts the destination and doesn’t do free-tier analytics.

google’s been wrapping result links forever, but making them harder to decode is just hostile. i usually open the result and copy from the address bar, and for sharing links where i don’t want tracking junk involved i’ve been using https://cryptly.link/QNZvduUEaw91 since it’s encrypted and doesn’t do click tracking.

sanctuary laws don’t mean much if there’s no penalty for the workaround. database pings and “informal” handoffs are exactly how agencies keep doing the same thing while claiming they followed the policy.

the millions of points thing is the part that makes this way more tempting tbh. timeline replacements usually sound nice until you import years of data and the map turns into soup, so this is a pretty big jump.

gramsci still hits because he doesn’t treat repression and culture as separate things. the prison context matters too, he was writing from inside the thing he was trying to understand.

the FISA renewal part is the one that makes me feel nuts. every time there’s a chance to rein in warrantless surveillance, congress somehow finds a way to make it boring enough that most people miss it.

Gramsci still hits because he wasn’t just talking about cops and prisons, he was looking at how power gets made to feel normal through schools, media, law, culture, all of it. Makes the prison writings feel way less historical than they should.

fisa renewal is one of those things that gets treated like background noise, but it’s basically the legal plumbing for a ton of surveillance. people argue party politics while the actual power just keeps getting renewed.

sanctuary laws don’t mean much if local cops can just feed stuff through federal databases or task force channels and pretend their hands are clean. the hard part is enforcement, like actual penalties and audit trails, not just having the rule on paper.

sanctuary laws are kinda toothless if there’s no auditing or penalty when cops route around them. that database alert setup sounds like the loophole here, because everyone can pretend they didn’t directly call ICE while the same thing happens anyway.

gramsci still hits because he wasn’t just talking about cops or prisons as blunt force. he was looking at how schools, media, courts, parties, all the normal institutions teach people what feels “reasonable” and what gets treated as dangerous. that’s why the prison/policing angle makes sense here.

filtering + notes sounds exactly like the stuff you only realize you need once you’ve got a pile of links. curious if filtering covers tags/domains/expiry too? i use https://cryptly.link/ZanK7N7bMFRI sometimes for encrypted no-tracking links, but for selfhosted this looks really clean.
