Final Fantasy@lemmy.world•A new Dissidia Final Fantasy announced
7·4 months agoI’m not sure what to make of this. I don’t have high hopes that’s for sure.
Mobile and likely gatcha-based doesn’t sit well with me. But can it be any worse than NT?
Curious to see what the setting is because it looks like it could be FF characters isakai’d into real world settings with casual clothing…

Final Fantasy@lemmy.world•[Megathread][FFT] Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles Release
6·4 months agoI’m seeing that quite a number of people are getting theirs early! On PS5 and Switch.
Anyone got their copy early?
I think everyone has given you all you need to know, but whats another comment?
Those pointing out the concerns with combat are correct, if you’re not enjoying it by now then you’re going to struggle with it through-out. Granted, as you get more, and more powerful materia, and equipment, you may find that sate your needs in this area. But I’m not sure it would by much.
Unlike other people, VII isn’t my favourite but I do still enjoy it and the story does pick up much more later. I always find Kalm and Junon to be a lull after Midgar (even if there are some highlights among this section), and have had to power through when I’ve played it. I’d say after Costa-del-sol is a good time to reassess if you’ve got the energy to continue. If not, then there’s no harm in taking a step back from the game and calling it a day - it doesn’t sound like you’re attached to any aspect of it right now, so you’re not losing out on anything.

1·7 months agoInteresting but ultimately non-answer about turn based combat returning to Final Fantasy.
With this question of turn-based versus action, it tends to isolate the gameplay to just the battle system. That doesn’t take into account what kind of game the creators want to deliver to players. For example, based on a certain graphical quality we want to present to our players, or the narrative we want to deliver to our players, it relates to how we set up the game’s systems around it. This includes the battle system, game design, and gameplay feel. It’s not a clear-cut answer, whether it will become all turn-based, or if it’s going to become more action-based.

Final Fantasy@lemmy.world•[FFT] Final Fantasy Tactics - The Ivalice Chronicles does not include The War of the Lions content
31·8 months agoGiven that they (the creators) weren’t involved in any of the WotL changes and it doesn’t align with their overall vision of the game, I’m happy with the decisions they’re making. I don’t believe it will lessen or cheapen the story or game itself when there’s so much more going in to IC.
I can still play WotL if I want, and I’ll be keeping my pre-order in place for this, and I’m happy Europe gets a proper physical release (unlike the original).

4·8 months agoI don’t think anyone did. It was shadow dropped and I wonder if they (MS, SE or both) were expecting that to create instant hype.

Final Fantasy@lemmy.world•[FFXVI] Final Fantasy XVI Xbox Launch Sees Weak Sales Performance, Fails To Enter Top 20
2·8 months agoI wonder if this comes as any surprise when a) it takes several years to release to the console, even after a PC release and b) its released to a console where large parts of the user base are conditioned to only get games on gamepass.

2·8 months agoYeah waiting for a sale is a good idea if you’re uncertain. I bought it full price on PS5 and don’t regret it because I felt got my money worth - spent enough time with it for multiple play throughs, platinum trophy, etc

7·8 months agoI had the same reaction to it, but ended up buying it after looking into some gameplay. I’m glad I did because there’s a really enjoyable game outside of the “sex appeal.” Combat is good and fun, there’s an interesting story there too. My only major complaint is that about 2/3 or 3/4 through the game it turns into a boss rush, and almost feels like the devs ran out of time or budget so cut some story.
As for the community, it’s easy to get around that by just not taking part. I’ve avoided it for the same reasons you’re not wanting to play. It’s a shame there too because I imagine there’s well meaning people who truly love what the game has to offer outside of fan service, and would love to discuss lore, etc.
If you’ve played Revenant Wings then maybe take a look at other games in the Ivalice Alliance series - XII may be the more appropriate choice as RW is its sequel.
Otherwise I’d consider one of the more turn-based ones to get a flavour of those FF games. FFX is probably going to be a top choice there and you’re already looking at it, but there’s plenty of good ones to decide from. My favourite is VIII but that doesn’t mean it’s the best for you. IX is a common favourite that you might also enjoy. And FFVI from pre-PlayStation era is another common favourite.

1·8 months agoI’d agree with this to be honest. As much as I love my Steam Deck I’m not sure it’s the choice they’re looking for. But, I also haven’t used any other Asus offerings with handhelds, to make a full run down of advice and comparison.
Same, looking forward to eventually playing this.

1·8 months agoI read that somewhere as well, it coincided with reports of SteamOS being more performant that Windows 11 for gaming. How related they both were I have no idea but it sounds like MS were already aware and are trying to resolve that here as it prevents resource intensive processes from launching (desktop, etc).
Sorry for the Twitter link, but Atlus shared it will be on Xbox, PS5 and PC. So no exclusivity on this.

Sad I wonder be able to go see this, but would still love to hear from people who have and their experience!
