- VM, 2) docker (macos runs docker inside a VM, u run KDE inside of it as a fat container), 3) MacOS specific tooling - this will depend on what they let you install. homebrew is a start, nix env also exists.

46·3 months agoits us-east-1 as usual, I guess its that time of the year. and the companies haven’t changed either… so, basically the IT guys told the budget approvers we need more money they calculated it and said, no. see you next year for another one.

Web Development@programming.dev•React Won by Default – And It's Killing Frontend Innovation
81·3 months agoI use HTML5, css3 and vanilla js… haven’t seen a web dev project in years that actually needed to be an application. for the odd moment where I need interactive controls htmx comes to the rescue. I’ve built a few actual web applications using both react and angular before and can tell you nothing is more amazing than not having to deal with npm anymore. don’t get me started on downloading all backend state into browser cache just to change the color of a button ;-)
really didn’t like them adding generics actually… :-)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How has standing or standing-sitting vs sitting while working affected your life?
6·8 months agoI switch between both a lot to mix up my day. Dont have lower back pain if I do. Also, do some core exercises.

Pop!_OS (Linux)@lemmy.world•Three months with the System76 PangolinEnglish
3·2 years agoNot sure about the laptops, but the keyboard is nice. My guess would be that the percentage of returns will likely be similar to lenovo but they have logistics covered in most countries. S76 should simply not sell in countries with prohibitively expensive return costs.
How would they enforce this on open source projects without companies behind them?
This doesn’t require the user to be able to block, it’s required that there is the ability to block a user from the system in general.
This is amazing, is TDE able to run on Wayland?
Here is the official list of nextcloud providers that do the setup and maintenance for you: https://github.com/nextcloud/providers#providers
I’m using fedora as my work system, because I have a relatively new laptop that needs the new kernels. Haven’t experienced anything you’re describing. Are you on fedora regular or on sliverblue (the immutable version)? If you’re having issues running the newest kernel, follow the fedora documented way to build and run your own. I did just that when needed a prerelease kernel and it worked out fine. I usually upgrade to a new release by the end of the cycle, so that the new version had 6 months to mature. I never immediately upgrade.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•A Reddit User Admitted To Pirating a Movie 12 Years Ago. Movie Studios Want To Unmask Him.English
71·3 years agoIts a surprise to me that a reddit post or any kind of random text blurb can be used as an admission of anything. What if the guy simply says I made all that up for fun? There is no requirement for text written on the internet to be under oath. Edit: fixed spelling oauth -> oath ;)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do people think about advertising like this on lemmy? Should it be allowed? Could it be stopped?English
5·3 years agoI agree to that, however I was answering in context of the fediverse taking over and being standalone. Wishful thinking I know, but one can hope.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do people think about advertising like this on lemmy? Should it be allowed? Could it be stopped?English
61·3 years agoI actually think its OK, its just like any other account. So simply block them and all is good. Businesses need platforms too. If you dont like that business advertising to you block them. The difference to the big social media giants is that you can’t block them cuz they pay them. Also, a bad ad will have significant less reach in lemmy/masto.

Technology@lemmy.world•These are the privacy permissions that you grant for Meta's new twitter competitorEnglish
32·3 years agoI bet they r just being lazy and can get away with it. Wasn’t going to use it anyway.
They have been making a profit on YT for years already. This isn’t to cover the server cost, its to increase the bottom line after all competition was crushed by them. Also, I remember a time with unobtrusive ads that were fine and not an issue, unfortunately for the past 2 years or so they’re pushing more and more ads lately doubling up on them as well. Clearly people - just like me - start fighting back and stop them from abusing with massive amounts of unwanted content.

its nice of them to anounce that they’ve taken the first step to monetize the users they have. Certainly not going to use whatever it is they have to offer.
