Technology@lemmy.world•RAM Prices Got You Down? Try DDR3. Seriously!English
9·8 hours agoThe question is for companies like Ubisoft and EA which usually design games for what PCs are going to be when a game comes out. And since the games industry was bigger than the movies industry before it collapsed due to Covid, what’s that going to do to the economy?

Progressive Metal Music@sopuli.xyz•Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - Hush, Hush
1·1 day agoThey were amazing live. Forget which track but they ended by walking through the crowd singing, with the audience picking up the refrain. Utterly transfixed.
I’m having #catfacts flashbacks now.
Did you know owls can fly? Above ground even! #owlfacts

4·1 day agoI saw this use-case and was immediately interested. This hangs near my front door so I know what’s coming. This particular one has some limitations, but I think the low-res nature of this class forces some nice design decisions.

Progressive Metal Music@sopuli.xyz•[Best of 2025] Dessiderium - Pollen for the Bees (FFO Wilderun, symphonic with some harsh vox)
2·3 days agoOkay, so I’m new to Devin. I’ve heard one thing of his which was described as Disney Metal, and yes, indeed, and it was fun. If I like Wilderun and have some tolerance for harsh vocals (but a hearty love for clean although I’m picky) where should I start?
I love: Anekdoten, Wobbler, Opeth, Symphony X, Wilderun, Ptree, Amorphis, Psychonaut, Cloudkicker, Green Carnation, Ihlo.

Technology@lemmy.world•See for yourself just how massive Meta’s Hyperion data center isEnglish
4·4 days agoDepends. Normally yes (I’ve been in data centers like you’re talking about), but because it’s likely using GPUs for the LLM it’s probably considerably louder. Closer to this, which is a crypto mine: https://theweek.com/tech/the-noise-of-bitcoin-mining-is-driving-americans-crazy
Do you realize just how many fucktards are waiting in the wings and pushing for a constitutional convention so they can ban abortion and ensconce shit like Citizens United so we can never get rid of it? They’re already spending millions trying to get one. And they’d allow Trump a third term easy.

Dallas-Fort Worth@lemmy.world•Heim Barbecue scales back footprint, launches low-price conceptEnglish
1·5 days agoHonestly, Heim on Magnolia hasn’t been great for a few years - if I’m taking people for BBQ downtown, Hurtado or Panther City are the places to go. The Pig Wagon idea is interesting, and craft bbq at a reasonable price point right now would be welcome.

News@lemmy.world•65% of workers are interested in ‘microshifting’ their schedules as an alternative to the strict 9-to-5: It’s ‘a way to reclaim control’
1·5 days agoI get where you’re coming from, but that’s not microshifting. They’re talking about still working the hours, but with longer gaps and longer time between “first on” and “last off”. Leave at 3pm, but then work from 9-11pm, for instance.

13·6 days agoThe crazy part is just how small the total area for saguaro cactus is.

Yup. But both are more difficult to use in practice, and I’ve been on enough calls where the person shares their entire 40” ultra-wide, to encourage it. I run with three monitors, and replacing any of them is trivial. The biggest problem is the KVM, and that’s ~$200.
