8·5 months agoWhy the fuck is the president rolling back or setting any regulation? That’s what congress is for. Also, for example, they are supposedly handling tariffs and upholding the constitution. Their duties include impeaching and removing from office presidents that violate their oaths and the constitution.
Yes I know we’re in this mess due to the combo of an evil fascist president and a weak corrupt congress. And decades of congress allowing presidential power to escalate.

3·6 months agoAs far as I can tell, AI almost always makes a call to a remote server. So why do you need a powerful PC for that? You could do that on a 20 year old computer easily.
I tried AI on my MacBook to ask it how to fix my config. It just did an internet search and didn’t even check the setting on my computer.

The Flintstones fascinated me when I was a kid because everything had already been invented but it was just made out of rocks and wood instead of metal and plastic. So for example they had a stone dishwasher appliance powered by a bird or something.

9·8 months agoNo that’s not the same thing. It’s the difference between looking up how to do something and having it done for you.
There have been multiple articles recently that show AI weakens skills.
Btw there’s no need to add strawman arguments with scenarios I didn’t mention.

One of the themes of Star Trek is that humans moved on from the greed and violence of the past. This is due to two things:
- There was a nuclear war that wiped out almost everything and that taught a lesson.
- Society is post scarcity. Due to replicators, anyone can have anything they want.
I’m skeptical of the first one because in history there have been several wars that wiped out almost everything and people go back to their old ways in a generation.
I’m even more skeptical of the second one. Frankly, we are basically post scarcity now. The whole world could easily be fed and housed with our current tech. But they just aren’t because of greed and hoarding.
You can bet that if replicators were invented tomorrow they would all be hogged by Musk and Bezos and Putin.
Boy, I say boy, you got so many pins in your head I’m gonna use it to make some string art.

Turbo was the default behavior. There was a toggle button that turned off the turbo light and slowed the machine down when needed for compatibility. Note: almost nobody needed this capability it sometimes they bumped the button and later wondered why the pc was slow.
