6·11 days agoI’ve basically done this for games and other programs using this desktop file:
[Desktop Entry] Name=Run with Bottles Comment=Run directly with bottles Icon=com.usebottles.bottles Exec=bottles-cli run --bottle Gaming --executable %f Terminal=false NoDisplay=true Type=Application Categories=Utility;GNOME;GTK; StartupNotify=true StartupWMClass=bottles MimeType=x-scheme-handler/bottles;application/x-ms-dos-executable;application/x-msi;application/x-ms-shortcut;application/x-wine-extension-msp; Keywords=wine;windows; X-GNOME-UsesNotifications=trueSave as
runwithbottles.desktopin~/.local/share/applicationsAnd remember to change--bottle Gamingto whatever bottle you want to use.Now you can run any .exe by double clicking on it. If you associate it with ‘Run with Bottles’ This needs bottles to be installed, but allows you to run executables with Proton or Proton-GE too.
I bought an Asus Zenbook 14 about a year ago, specifically for immediately installing linux on it and doing some light gaming (I also have a linux desktop)
It has been surprisingly good. When the windows setup launched, the fans were spinning up loudly. I wiped the laptop and installed NixOs. Suddenly the fans went quiet, and I got an estimated battery life of around 11 hours with light usage, excellent.
It has an AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS CPU with 780M graphics. I was surprised at what you can run on this. Even Elden Ring was working smoothly on low to medium settings. And the laptop weighs around 1.2kg. I found it even more practical to carry around than my steam deck. (which I’ve sold)
Overall pretty great experience. Planning to build an Egpu to connect to the USB4 ports so I can add a bit of extra horsepower with an external GPU when needed.
Is your friend by any chance a beefaloo?

2·1 month agoIt’s also very nice to have a computer which you can just take with you and play games with friends at their place or connect to the television and just play games (or other media) on the big screen.
I also have 2 8bitdo sn30 controllers that I can just take everywhere because they’re so compact and I use it to play games together on the go.
Not sure if it can be considered old timey, But I enjoyed Caves of Qud-

1·1 month agoI have a laptop with a AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS myself. Not sure if it counts as lowspec. But it didn’t cost much and it’s 1.2kg.
I was surprised by what games I could play on this while on the go. Most of the things I play on my desktop work fine on this laptop. Even things like elden ring are playable. It’s crazy what you can achieve with integrated graphics these days.

1·2 months agoI feel like this is the reason cheats should always be allowed for singleplayer games (and even some coop multiplayer ones) People should be allowed to adjust a game to fit their needs, make it easier, have more loot, have more health etc. Or make it harder, set your health to be always zero, equip a new weapon when you find it, etc.
Video game makers can not provide for everyone and every situation, but when allowed, modders and cheaters will already implement these modifications by themselves.

1·2 months agoI have a feeling that this is also influenced by people that experienced (emotional) trauma. Some people dissociate from their feelings as a result of things that happened in the past, and this can also impact their ability to visualise things. (Because their brain is protecting them from re-experiencing their trauma)

Inscryption is really a good showcase of what makes games fun, and packed with so many things to discover and hidden things.

1·2 months agoGod hand, what a wonderful choice! Nothing really comes close to the ass-slapping action of that title. And the clunky controls actually make it feel more fun and unique.
I also experience little to no internal dialog, and have no issues sleeping. But I’m still stressed. Usually I’m unaware, but its more of a feeling than a thought.

Maybe something like radicle?
