Is your question rhetorical? I remember reading before that Facebook was creating shadow accounts for people that didn’t have actual accounts. They would build a user based on everything they could track, even attaching presumed names.

4·3 months agoI use reolink cameras isolated to their own VLAN and strictly controlled. NVR is an Intel NUC with Coral running Frigate. It was the cheapest/best solution for me. Tough to find things that aren’t insanely expensive.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Manosphere influencers are making classrooms a nightmare. Here's why
4·6 months agoI’m not sure why you assume this but my wife and I both work in high school (grade 8 - 12) which is part of a small, fairly conservative community. Our administrative staff all the way up to superintendent are extremely supportive of these types of things. Inclusion and awareness is very important at our high school for everyone. We also have social media education introduced in multiple classes. About 3/4 of all staff are female and neither of us have witnessed this type of misogynistic behavior. Our struggle is racism, antisemitism and intolerance.
I’m not saying that misogyny isn’t a problem, I experience it on instagram and YouTube all the time and the comment sections are insane. My point is that administration does care, we are encouraged to include this type of education in our curriculum and we talk about it during staff meetings.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Conservatives Speak Out In Support Of Convoy Organizers
23·6 months agoI think you brought up valid points and people are kind of over reacting. I agree education is the problem but what you said also got me to see the “not vaccinating myself is causing harm to others” viewpoint. Some here are being rude instead of engaging in better conversation. Your comment got me to think and read others.
Nice write-up. I thought I had a large library (24TB) and my off site backup is starting to get full. I backup everything though but I have long debated on if there’s a point of keeping movies and TV since they’ll likely always be available. Anyway, I never thought of generating a list of files and eliminating the stuff that’s not particularly important. Good idea.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canadian banks invested more in fossil fuels in 2024 despite record heat: report
1·7 months agoThe website this article uses (https://www.bankingonclimatechaos.org/) is extremely interesting and holds a lot of data.
Looking at Enbridge as an example it reports that a total of $86b was invested from banks between 2021 and 2024. The info that I cannot find is how much Enbridge invests into infrastructure like transmission lines or how much of that $86b went towards renewables. Enbridge has “commited” to Net-Zero by 2050.
I am 100% for transitioning to cleaner, renewable energy and getting Canada into energy independence. It’s going to take time and money and professionals. Companies like Enbridge aren’t going to stop producing carbon, but I think they are going to be the ones that make the biggest steps towards getting us there.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada scores 97/100 on 2025 Freedom index, trailing only Finland, New Zealand, Sweden, Norway.
1·9 months agoI can see your point about the housing crisis in a way. It restricts people’s ability to have a place to live and, shelter. But does that really affect their freedom? Cost of living also is difficult but it’s not really preventing you from being “free” in the sense of the word. Or is it? I may be missing the point.
I’m completely ignorant to policing issues, especially in Vancouver. I generally don’t agree with law enforcement having too much control.
In my region of BC the reconciliation stuff has been very well received mostly. Indigenous people are a big part of the community and their culture has expanded into the school system, their businesses are successful. Housing projects for indigenous have also been going on constantly.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Pierre: The real problem is the potential Liberal leaders shoes
3·1 year agoYeah I agree. I’m trying to be optimistic about whoever we have next isn’t going to sell us out or pull a USA. PP doesn’t instill much confidence but I just hope he has some heart or desire to do good and not be evil.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Pierre: The real problem is the potential Liberal leaders shoes
2·1 year agoNot that I support PP (also I hate that I need to specify that first) but he’s got a couple videos on YouTube that I thought were fairly well done addressing a couple things regarding trade and some plans.
Thanks a lot for Immich and for posting here. Much appreciated the hard work this year and helping myself and family on our self hosted journey.

I remember everyone saying “suck it” all the time haha. And then later just doing the gesture.
