I’d highly recommend Kagi! You can customise your search results as well, so you can make sure some websites show up more often than others (or even not at all), or higher up/lower down on the list.

Yikes! Does anyone know what happened?

Games@lemmy.world•Infinite Craft, an endless crafting game, is out.English
22·2 years agoI was wondering why it looked different from some of the screenshots I see here but when I play on mobile it’s just an endless list that gets bigger and requires a lot of scrolling. Switched my browser to desktop mode and now I can see you can drag and drop stuff. These types of games are so simple but so addicting. Ahhh

1·2 years agoThanks for the tip! Checking it out right now. Does it also work if my mobile carrier isn’t on the list?

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Samsung advertising new phone in my notificationsEnglish
12·2 years agoUgh I hate those ads. I had a OnePlus for a few years and forgot about all the bloat you get with a Samsung phone. Recently decided to go for a Samsung phone as the other options didn’t seem much better. But now I keep getting ads from Google and Samsung in my notifications. I THINK I managed to disable some of it but it still keeps popping up once in a while.

Linux@lemmy.ml•When Windows 10 dies, I am going to jump ship over to Linux. Which version would you recommend for someone with zero prior experience with Linux? **Edit: Linux Mint it shall be.**
15·2 years agoI’d recommend POP!_OS. Very easy to install and use and most games I’ve tried to play work without any problems.
Ugh I hate that with YouTube ads as well (at least on my Android TV). I’ll watch something, get interrupted by ads, sometimes minutes long and/or multiple ads, and after the ad(s) it jumps seconds or even minutes ahead from where I was watching. Then when I rewind to the point I was at it’ll often play even more ads. It’s super annoying but if they think this convinces me to buy their premium subscription they’re very wrong. It’s so off-putting.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Discussion] What games are you playing on your deck? - November 2023
2·2 years agoBaldur’s Gate 3, mostly. But I’ve been playing Pathfinder Wrath of The Righteous when the others in the group I play with can’t play.
Oh, and some Cities Skylines II here and there. Works reasonably well with the controller, but it’s not perfect.
I really like it so far, especially with the new apps. I’m using Boost and I honestly can’t tell the difference between this and the old Boost for Reddit. The transition is really smooth. Oh, and everything on Lemmy feels very intuitive and the people seem less toxic.
And Mastodon…I really like it. I’ll post something with the right hashtags and suddenly there’s a conversation between a bunch of people with the same interests that goes on for weeks!

Boost for Lemmy@lemmy.world•[FR] Swipe voting is the ONLY thing missing from Boost, something many others haveEnglish
2·2 years agoIf this gets added I hope it’s optional, because I really don’t like it. I came across this feature in several Lemmy apps and and almost every time I scroll vertically the app registers it as scrolling horizontally and suddenly I’m up- or downvoting or even bookmarking a random comment.
Yeah there’s an option in the settings called Remove Ads. The problem is, that option isn’t working for me. When I tap that option all I get is a screen with the Boost logo and the text Remove Ads below it and that’s it.

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•What Are Some Good Card Videogames?English
3·2 years agoSlay The Spire and Monster Train are both very good, but often recommended. Other card games that are worth checking out: Gordian Quest, Vault of The Void and Across The Obelisk! The latter is a lot of fun when playing sigh up to 3 friends but it’s good as a singleplayer game as well!
Yeah it’s insane how expensive everything gets. I’m subscribed to a bunch of streaming services (like Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, etc) and sometimes I use them a lot but HBO, for instance, I’ve only used a few times and it’s just sitting there on our smart TV taking up space and draining our bank account. But I got it when there was a really good deal and if I cancel and resubscribe I have to pay the full amount. Then again, I’m probably wasting more money with it now than I would’ve if I’d just cancelled and then resubscribed when I actually used it. Oops.
But yeah, I’m definitely not going to pay more for those services than I am now, so if the pricing gets even more ridiculous I’m out.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Can you easily communicate in your country (business/private life) without being involuntarily forced to use whatsapp?
14·3 years agoI’m from Europe, and for years I’d been using WhatsApp because everyone expected me to even though I didn’t feel comfortable using it at all (because I care about my privacy and apparently not all of my friends/family members do). At some point I was forced to accept new terms that basically said it was okay for them to sell my data and that’s where I drew the line and told everyone that I would no longer be using WhatsApp and that if they wanted to reach me they could call me, text me or message me on Telegram. I immediately uninstalled it.
I noticed friends and family found it a bit odd and inconvenient that I’d stopped using WhatsApp. And many companies seem to use WhatsApp to contact their customers (why can’t they just email me instead…) and it seems they automatically assume everyone uses it, which I find a bit annoying. But ever since uninstalling it no one has been able to convince me to reinstall it and I plan to keep it that way.
Some of my favourite that bring back good memories:
- Age of Empires II
- Caesar games
- C&C Red Alert
- Diablo
- Magic & Mayhem
- Pharaoh
- Pokémon (Yellow, Blue/Red)
- Postal
- SimCity 2000
- StarCraft
- Warcraft II
I think it did/does make picking skills more meaningful because you can’t just pick any skill unless you want to respec. I didn’t like how Diablo 3 did it for that reason.
I think it’s nice that they made it easy enough to respec without having to start a new character just to try a different build.
However, I do wish they would add a confirm button before a skill point is actually used up when selecting a skill because that’d make it easier to plan out builds (though there are plenty of websites with build tools/calculators out there).

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What Reddit client did you use before the API changes?
2·3 years agoJoey, and Boost up until a few years ago.

I keep getting this spam as well, from different accounts but the same ‘Nicole’. Different photos as well (of the same person). I’ve just been blocking them but it’s really annoying because blocking them doesn’t stop then from messaging me from different accounts.
