I don’t support the use of AI tools in general, but i have a soft spot for long-term maintainers. These people generally don’t have enough support for this to be a full-time hobby, and when a project becomes popular the pressure is massive.

If the community wont step up to take the burden off the maintainer, but they still want active development, what can you do? As long as the program continues to be high quality, i cant complain about a free thing.

I used to really dig Linus, i watched from NCIX up until a few years ago. I stopped watching for a bunch of reasons. I remember when he said one of the things he wanted to do when starting a company was ensure everyone that worked for him could “afford a house”, then to see how he treated people and kept them at low wages was a bummer.

I mean, i guess when you grow that big that fast some things get left out, but i also feel like maybe exponential growth isn’t always a necessity?

Also it seems like he’s one of the only personalities online that has not increased in technical ability at all.

I’m a returning student, and I’m really upset at the level that my cohort turns to AI for everything. There’s no effort to think about a problem when most school work is already in the system and can be retrieved easily.

It’s also upsetting to me how attractive an option it can be. I can spend all this time working on something, or i drop a simple prompt and just rewrite the answer in my own words. When you have something that you forgot about or procrastinated on, it’s really attractive to say “What are some themes in Moby Dick?” and basically rewrite the response. What’s even more upsetting than that, is the amount of people who wont even retype a thing to pass it as their own, but just copy/paste.

An increasing number of my profs are adding AI into their courses, with the feeling that it’s inevitable. It’s distressing to see an assignment that calls for us to ask a chat or about the problem then fact check it. I feel like that’s teaching the exact opposite of what these kids need.

I have some ideas about this, I’ve been rocking a moto RAZR with a clicks keyboard for a few months. I do maybe 80-90% of my phone time on the external screen which does great for music/audiobook selection, emails and Feeder/Summit, but apps that capitalize on longscreen scrolling like Instagram, tiktok, Facebook are a terrible, infuriating mess to use. I think they’re leaning into the square screen format for the keyboard, and using the marketability of “less doom scrolling” to try and net people who feel they want to get away from the apps.

I keep hearing from separatists how popular the idea is, but I’ve only ever seen one or two people at a folding table on their phone.

I remember the time I had a good pear. I actually thought it was a different fruit.

I limit myself to one or two “new full price” purchases a year, and it’s usually games from known devs i want to support that I’m excited about.

Honestly, the only way you’ll know is to try. I don’t normally go for a lot of new anime, but I really enjoyed some of Dungeon Meshi.

Between a poor BluRay copy and a good DVD copy, the DVD always wins out.

Yeah, all my inputs go to the tv, then i run a wire to the receiver. This makes it so my ps5 and PC are plugged directly to the tv so i can get different resolutions are variable refresh rate and the tv can control the receiver. So when I turn something on, the tv/receiver turn on and set themselves to matching settings, Dolby, stereo, whatever. Its not huge but its a nice convinienice over the older optical connection.

I mean, yes and no. I like e-arc, and I like being able to adjust settings other than v-hold. But I don’t want this slow crud fest that keeps telling me when my neighbour turns on Bluetooth on their iphone.
