  • Seems like a regular hat theory to me. Seems like an obvious pipeline from his Miss Teen USA beauty pageants to “industry opportunities” like modeling or access to good agents, and then “I’ve pulled some strings for you and I’ve got you an invitation to an exclusive party full of important people you’ll really benefit from meeting. Just wear this little thing and be one of many pretty girls in the room, enjoying a private party. Show how fun you can be, and then the way will be paved for you. Trust me, I know how these things work. The best thing that can happen for your future is that one of these guys asks to talk privately with you in a room in the back. Just go along with it.”

I would be very surprised if there were evidence that this isn’t what was happening.

  • That’s optimistic. In terms of physical changes, it will take a couple years; in terms of law and policy changes, it will take decades if it can ever be undone.

But in terms of global standing, reputation, trust, credit, etc? That shit is never coming back. Only a fucking moron would agree to any strong partnership with the US knowing that every 4 years there’s a significant chance that their leader could be a demented, spoiled brat who will tear everything apart and nobody will stop him from doing the most batshit insane cruelties imaginable. Once is a fluke; we elected this dumbass traitor twice, and we did nothing about his atrocities after the first go.

This stupid asshole wrecked everything, and we still haven’t truly felt even a small fraction of the damage yet.

  • That’s just ridiculous. You don’t think that we’re spending tax dollars on bullets and bombs to kill brown people in our own land? Look up the 1985 MOVE bombing and any one of the countless events where a cop shot an unarmed law-abiding minority. We don’t need to go somewhere else to kill brown people when we have perfectly good brown people at home. Not endorsing it btw, just pointing out the fucked up thing that my country regularly does while somehow still trying to claim with a straight face that we’re not racist and “this isn’t who we are” every time we do this thing we keep doing…

  • I’m still pissed off at Democrats in the Senate that pulled that very thing to end the shutdown less than a week after big election wins last month. Republicans were starting to crack under pressure and those fuckers conspired to give their leverage up for nothing, but in a way to not expose Schumer and anyone running in 2026.

I’ll never be one to argue “both sides” but holy fucking shit was that a letdown. That was a McConnell type play. If they’re gonna be sneaky schemers, I wish they’d do it on behalf of the voters and not their donors. At this point, they’ve got to be aware that, if their negligence destroys the economy and the country enough, that they have much more to lose than we do. I’m much closer to broke than I am to being a millionaire (let alone billionaire), so if my cash becomes toilet paper, I’ll power through on spite alone from knowing that their mountain of toilet paper drags them down to our level. But unlike me, they’ll be one of a select few with targets on their backs for betraying we the people.

We are a very niche group. This product will appeal to a lot of people who aren’t here, but also to some who are. In the end, this will be good for PC gaming as a whole, and it will probably either hurt Microsoft or inspire them to make some serious changes. I’m betting that this also makes people a little more curious about their hardware and software. The steam deck proved to me that leaving windows could be pretty simple and not a downgrade. I’ve been looking to build my own steam machine ever since, and now I might not need to depending on the price.

  • I built my first PC in 2009. You’re right that it isn’t very hard, especially now with resources like what you linked plus videos on YouTube. But not everybody is interested in tinkering like that. There’s research to be done to even know what half this shit means. Your average gamer hasn’t built a PC and doesn’t know AMD from Intel. Younger people these days tend to expect something quick and easy, so they’ll be more likely to buy something prebuilt. People 35ish+ these days tend to be too busy working multiple jobs and/or school and/or managing homes, so they’ll be more likely to buy something that just works when they get an hour to spare.

It’s getting to be exceedingly rare for a person to have the knowledge necessary AND time AND money to build and troubleshoot a modern PC.

As somebody who probably could do it, I might still just buy a steam machine. Because I don’t need cutting edge shit and I just want to sip on whiskey and relax, not have yet another fucking project on my hands. My laptop is old and dying, and I’m looking for a reason to not buy a PS6. This would cover both.
