I’ve considered setting something like that up on my main homelab system. Honestly though, I only listen to audiobooks or podcasts on one device: my phone. It has TONS of storage, so I just have it set to automatically download a large queue, The audiobooks are a drop in the bucket next to the huge music library I’ve been packing around and adding to since the iPod days.

Mint was the first toe I dipped in the linux world (like a lot of people). I’m with you on Ubuntu, though I’ve played around with Kubuntu and liked it, though mostly I think I just like KDE Plasma.
Arch is definitely off the table for this: I want a media machine, not a job!
That was what I was leaning toward. That and just run whatever media-server distro on the beelink. Still, I figured it was worth reaching out for comments, since there are folks who do a lot more of this stuff than I do.

Coffee@lemmy.world•Finally brought my Aeropress Go to work, and it IS worth it
1·8 months agoSame, Hoffmann style, but with 17 grams and I go for 3 minutes. 12 grams just seemed too thin.

Coffee@lemmy.world•Finally brought my Aeropress Go to work, and it IS worth it
4·8 months agoI take an original to work with a KINGrinder P2 nested inside it… it would be difficult to get a more compact combo of coffee maker AND grinder.
My technique is roughly what James Hoffmann outlined on his channel - standard orientation, but slipping the plunger in to hold the coffee up via vacuum.
It’s a little fiddly on the job, but it’s worth it when I taste that delicious brew.

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•Some people think that proprietary software for a 3d printer is a plus?
2·9 months agoI’m with you. Joining parts adds a ton of post processing that I’d really prefer to do without.
“PewdiePie, one of the world’s most popular YouTubers, recently published a video extolling the virtues of GrapheneOS”
Gross. Seriously though, Graphene is really good. Don’t hold this against them.
Ah, that makes more sense.
Other filament stuck in the nozzle maybe, and it just came loose in your print? I cant imagine mold being an issue.

2·10 months agoI mean… I guess I don’t really see the point, but I absolutely encourage you to go ahead. I always enjoy being proven wrong when I’m being negative.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why selfhosted social media protocols are hated ?
3·10 months agoSo every user is their own moderator… which just sounds like a ton of extra work vs something like Mastodon where I can pick a server whose moderation practices I agree with, is already decentralized into countless servers and allows the user to spin up their own instance.
Keyword filtration as a moderation technique is woefully ineffective vs trolls who simply find “clever” new ways to harass with intentional misspellings, dogwhistles, etc.
Meanwhile, you’re pitching this thing as “uncensorable” which automatically appeals to the worst elements available. Maybe I’m wrong and it’ll be the perfect format for internet discussion, but I’m going to have to see that actually happen before I jump on board.
Gotcha.
Actually, the best UI I’ve seen from smart TVs actually comes from some of the cheapest TVs: ones that come with Roku built in. You still have the spyware problem, and sometimes the hardware is pretty low end, but the UI is just like any Roku device.
Is the Chromecast spying less? I haven’t looked into it, sp correct me if I’m wrong, but it just seems like you’re trading to a different company invading your privacy.

71·10 months agoSounds like a real haven for “free speech extremist” types. Personally, I’m not searching for social media with more hate, slurs and conspiracy nonsense. I’d go back to twitter if I wanted that.

2·10 months agoI’m pretty adept with my ff/rw buttons, but I already have the docker machine to run this…
The thing that gets me about the ads on BTB is that (based on the ads I get) IHeart apparently thinks of it as a “true crime” podcast and… I guess I can see that, but I’ve got zero interest in listening to podcasts about some weird small town murder or whatever.

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•3D printers leave hidden ‘fingerprints’ that reveal part origins
26·11 months agoI think that’s the unspoken implication and I’m instantly suspicious of the entire premise. The entire field of forensic science is filled to the brim with things described as “fingerprints” that are not nearly as unique or consistent as the field would have us believe.
Now that’s just not true… someone has to load the van.
(I kid. I play both… and a few other things.)
OP: Nice Danelectro. I’ve got a Korean 59 NOS+ and while I have guitars worth ten times as much, it still pops up in the rotation regularly.
