I agree that prostitutes are victims. There is a narrative now that prostitution can somehow be a real job and not degenerate and self-debasing.

Considering this is lemmy people will nod their heads in agreement until he mentions prostitutes (see other comment in this thread)

110·4 days agoIf they were shoving her it’s because they saw her as a threat. I only saw maybe 10 seconds of that interaction so maybe it was justified or maybe it was complete overreach on their part. Regardless it’s clear they wanted her out of the way and/or on the ground. I’m not saying it’s right. I’m saying they have the guns and the power of the state behind them. Don’t get involved. Especially if you are carrying a deadly weapon.

I see no reason to suspend the logic I would use in any other context.

121·4 days agoOfficers always assume that a suspect could be carrying a deadly weapon especially if they are non-compliant. This is why concealed carry classes focus on that interaction with such detail. As a carrier of a concealed weapon you have to use judgment first of all to avoid conflict and subsequently to reassure the officer that you are not a threat. This is how you facilitate a peaceful disarming and ensure you are not killed.

224·4 days agoI disagree with how everything is being handled. Regardless putting yourself within arms length of an antagonized, politicized and armed law enforcement agency with a concealed firearm is stupid. It just is. Nothing changes this calculus.

I’m not part of the Lemmy hivemind. Dismiss logic with whatever slogan you feel like using. You haven’t refuted anything.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Does anyone else hate how everyone is trying to make money all the time?
23·20 days agoYou will always have the rich & powerful and the poor. The problem is that the rich have lost all care for the poor. When you look throughout history the aristocracy was raised to rule and to steward great wealth. This meant funding art, cathedrals, public works, social services, charitable endeavors etc This raised the HDI for their surrounding community and nation. Certainly it wasn’t perfect but it was something, more than what we have now.
While most billionaires are invisible to the public what’s very clear with the visible is that they are loosely ‘self-made’ in which maybe they were rich to begin with but not remotely close to how rich they are now. This comes with a “well I earned it so I’ll spend it” philosophy. Furthermore our culture has no shared sense of identity or morality anymore so the social contract is broken. Having shed all historical culture and tradition we’re increasingly atomized and alien to one another. As a result America and to a lesser extent “The West” is comprised no longer of nations but instead of balkanized economic zones. It’s late-stage capitalism for sure but I would argue more succintly that it is late-stage materialism. Nihilism will always be the result when you remove the soul from the social equation.

11·20 days agoChristianity is patriarchal so the priest is correct that your sister shouldn’t be serving at the altar. I’m not sure why it was ever permitted in the first place but I’m not Catholic. They do many things I don’t understand. The idea that men and women must be able to occupy all roles equally didn’t reach critical mass in the secular world until 50-75 years ago. It shouldn’t be surprising that a 2000 year old tradition functions in this way. It sounds like the explanation that was given is correct. These justifications can be found in both scripture and tradition. This shouldn’t be misconstrued as women being less than a man it’s just that their roles are different. The most venerated Saint by far in all of Christendom is the Virgin Mary / Theotokos who filled a role that no man could fill, being the God bearer. I’m not expecting to change your mind. Modernism is it’s own religion with dogmas and heresies.

17·20 days agoWhen most people complain about Christians they are complaining about Protestants, especially Evangelical Protestants. Catholic and Orthodox have way less loonies comparatively than either evangelicals or the fedora wearing atheist crowd which is basically another form of protestantism. The Internet being the Internet will always show the worst of everyone but IRL most of the damage done is by the aforementioned. Sola Scriptura is one hell of a drug.

There’s no such thing as ‘sex work’. There is prostitution and pornographic exploitation.
