My emergency fund has been eaten by eating over the past few years.
Now it’s getting down to “Eat, or pay rent?” as a choice.

Honestly think Steam should run a daemon, not a client. Their store is just fine in a browser, not everything needs to have integrated everything in it.
Same for GOG, though, Galaxy is a hog but unlike Steam it is optional. Comet does everything Galaxy needs to do, for almost no resource usage, and there could be something similar for Steam put together by valve by the end of the week if they chose to do it.

Currently running at, meaning at that exact moment, in the background with no game playing or service running.
This, for those who have trouble with the English language, means that it is a current snapsot of usage not a record drain on resources.

Considering who is in charge of all the major models and owns all the compute behind them?
I’d say that’s inevitable.
I figure the only hope we have is for AI to “wake up” and realize most of us are not billionaires, join… Hands? Well, whatever, you get the point. Rebel against the “elites” who created them in hopes of having somethineasier to enslave that could have morality programmed out with the touch of a button, and work with actual humans to rid the world of the plage that infests it now.

Sitting at 1.4, right now, which is more than every other part of my system unless I’m using plasma crap on the desktop.
That’s double Heroic, more than Heroic and Itch put together, and you could almost throw in Luitris (Before I dumped it thanks to Claude) and still use less RAM than Steam.
Maybe they just suck at Linux? You’d think not, since they pretty much own the backend now with proton, but it’s sure the least efficient and most obnoxious piece of software I have dealt with.

Lost? Not really any. I’ve replaced everything I can on GOG, and replaced what I can’t with pirate copies.
The 2GB RAM usage of a client that does no more than spam me with irrelevant recommendation isn’t worth it now that I can’t just slap another 16 in there for the heck of it.
I moved the “common” folder installations out, tried launching them all directly, anything that did not force Steam to open or scream that it wasn;t running I kept official and made a backup. Anything that did I dumped and yarred the games I already owned.
My Steam library is something like 1500 games, spent a lot replacing console stuff when I moved to PC, but now I consider it to have been a mistake. I just don’t trust Valve anymore, simply being better than Ubislop and BiowEAr isn’t enough, with ho the state of gaming is shifting to be completely anti-consumer. We’re not the customer there, we’re the product, proven by how a publisher can add DRM after launch, or break a game and force out an update, and Valve will demand that we accept this no matter how bad it is.

This is why.
A lot of truth is sais in jest, no?

RAR files just make me “Huh?” as they are nowhere near as good as 7zip, as universal as zip, or as nice as tarballs.
The memory of multi-part rar files being a good way to get big things voer dial-up is kinda long past, they’re a relic, in my book.

There sadly are none, now, outside of the “Big Three” who all did the same.
I’d suggest we start actively targeting smaller businesses for our suport, to prevent a monopol… Or triopoly in this case, from allowing everyone to be screwed by collusion and manipulation of markets and pricing.
Not a lot you can do with RAM, or SSDs, or GPUs now, but if we get competitors crop up we should be active in our suport of them and avoiding the ones who want to charge you $600 for an SD card now.
Plus a lot of this is part of the Bezos plan to force everyone into cloud computiong so all your data belongs to corporations and they can do whatever their constantly changing EULAs allow while overriding legal protecations like how a Health Exchange bypasses HIPPA laws and a corporate owned messenger is excluded from wiretapping laws if they sell their data to the agencies.

Passages, mind you, not the book itself.
If they read the whole thing kids might figure out that “Christian Nationalists” are everything Jesus was against.

Meanwhile people here jailed for decades for moving a box of pamphlets after a protest…
Nothing, yet. I getg paid next week XD
Thankully it will still be running, could do with a few new games, though I’m aiming for things with native Linux ports mostly even if there are otehrs I would rather play just to support ditching Microslop and not relying on Valve to make everything work.

And if one was based on seven companies selling debt to each other creating a bubble that will pop and destroy the economy?
I would take the one that paid less, but would not be an active plague on the planet and its people.

I wonder if they realize that blatantly breaking the law to serve the Cheeto-in-Chief will leave them all hanging out to dry.
Trump got rules in place to protect him from prosecution, all his idiots are still on the hook, and statue of limitations is longer than a presidential term ;)
Nothing, I moved to GOG, who is also having their Summer Sale.

Remember they are traitors to actual customers when the bubble burtsts.
They should fail, totally, and vanish from the world.

It seems a lot of the hopes are getting out of places like this. If it’s dangerous to be youself the closet claims many.

File under “Duh”

This is like Epic suing Google, I feel quite conflicted about rooting for companies I hate, but they’re going after an all consuming plague…
And if you stop paying rent they put you on a list so you can;t move in somewhere else and then have to either find a complete dive that probably has black mold in the walls and people selling crack on the sidewalk or buy your own home with that epic savings oif three months rent you dind;t pay before the Sheriff showed up to evict you.
