I haven’t spent as much time as you did in NMS but I have the same feeling. It feels like I should be loving this game but everytime I try to play it for more than a few hours I end up hating it for the same reasons you listed

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•You don’t realize how bad it smells till you quit
24·1 month agoFormer smoker here, and I definitely think it smells gross. However there’s still a part of me that goes “Sure, it stinks, but one puff would feel so great right now!”

Technology@lemmy.zip•France orders internet providers to block access to Polymarket prediction siteEnglish
10·1 month agoAnd what happens when they refuse to pay the fine, or consider that those fines are an acceptable cost for doing business in France? If the goal is protecting the french public, blocking the site as soon as it is made illegal is the only option
When I was a child, I discovered JRPGs through Final Fantasy 9 on PS1. I was blown away and I would spend hours upon hours playing this game, until I progressed until it asked me to insert disk 4. To my horror, Disk 4 was scratched and didn’t work. That was the last time I played a final fantasy game
He applied for asylum in dozens of other countries, but all of their leaders received threatening direct phonecalls from then vice president Biden. Putin was the only one who didn’t cave to American pressure, so Snowden had no choice but to stay in Russia
It’s a reference to the book Hyperion by Dan Simmons, but now I’ve just learned that a recent videogame apparently has references to it
Cliché about French people being pretentious exists => everyone hates the French => the French try to get in on the joke and pretend to be pretentious in the comments => cliché about French people is reinforced => etc.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•"Valve’s new Steam Controller has a major problem for PC games not on Steam"
21·4 months agoYep, same. I had money saved up since the announcement to buy the controller when it launches, but this is seriously making me consider just buying and Xbox controller instead

Just Post@lemmy.world•I'm not smart enough to invent time travel, but I still have some ideas.

Games@lemmy.world•Why is gaming becoming so expensive? The answer is found in AIEnglish
3·5 months agoSorry, I was just answering your question and honestly didn’t mean it to sound agressive. English isn’t my native language so apologies if that came across as mean spirited, that wasn’t my intention

Solarpunk Urbanism@slrpnk.net•How Paris swapped cars for bikes – and transformed its streetsEnglish
9·5 months agoSame thing in France. I also live and Paris and don’t really know what the other commenter is talking about: bikes and electric scooters are not supposed to be ridden on the sidewalk, and from my experience rarely are if there’s an available bike lane. The only places I regularly see bikes on the sidewalk are those where the road infrastructure makes it too dangerous to ride a bike on a street

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Basically, they’re asking their users to help train their AI
21·5 months agoYoutube is honestly driving me nuts with its automatic titles translation. If I’m going to watch an hour-long video essay in english, I’m also capable of reading a two-word title in the same language, thank you very much. It feels kind of insulting to be honest

Gaming@lemmy.zip•Yes, Paradox are aware that a “barrage of DLCs” can scare away new players, for all their bundles and discountsEnglish
19·7 months agoThe issue to me is that the discounts aren’t even that interesting. I would love to get back into CK3 to see how it evolved since launch, but even during a big sale buying a few of the most impactful DLCs would cost me as much as a brand new game.
That’s interesting. Do you manage to land those hits consistently once the element of surprise is gone? I also practice historical fencing (but I mostly do arming sword and langes messer, though I’ve occasionally dabbled with rapier), and my experience has been that taller people usually have the reach advantage.
Ducking and thrusting straight ahead of you makes basic geometry work in your favour for compensating the reach disadvantage (your arm has a 90° angle giving you maximum range), but it also massively exposes your head of your first hit doesn’t land, and prevents you from using footwork for a few seconds. Once your opponent’s has figured out your strategy it would seem like he would just have to stay a bit out of reach and counter-attack/riposte while you recover from your ducking
