1·3 days agoThe last government was a disappointment because in the beginning it gave some people hope for actual improvements. We don’t have those hopes with the current one in the first place.

That’s a low bar to pass if I’ve ever seen one.
That’s just because it’s pronounced “Bose” instead of “Bose”.

Europe@feddit.org•Warsaw's alliance with Trump: Poland blocks important EU digital lawEnglish
42·5 days agoThey vetoed it’s implementation in Poland. Not for the entire EU. It’s not an issue with the EU mechanisms for once.
The DSA is already european law, and as a regulation is directly applicable in every member state. In Poland too. Nawrocki can cry and bitch all he wants about that. What he blocked is the local implementation which includes e.g. appointing regulatory bodies. In effect as far as I understand it, polish citizens sadly have nobody to turn to when this law is violated, but companies in Poland are still bound by it towards complaints from other member states.

Memes@lemmy.ml•Haven't been to a McDonald's since luigis capture. Never will forget. Never will forgive.
21·5 days agoWell yes, more revenue means more taxes, more taxes mean more (absolute) profit from any given tax break. That doesn’t mean small restaurants don’t benefit from it. It’s also true for any cost reduction. If electricity costs went down, McDonald’s would also profit more (in absolute numbers) than mom and pop restaurants.

Europe@feddit.org•Switzerland freezes assets linked to Venezuela's Maduro after US arrestEnglish
1·10 days agoThe parent suggested this was done in the interest of the USA
No, I suggested this was done in the interest of the orange rapist, which is not the same. Targeting the person currently in his sights is absolutely meant to gain browny points with him (and likely to work for a time). If it was meant to achieve anything else, it could and should have been done much earlier.
this is in the interest of Venezuela.
Maybe coincidentally. That entirely depends on with whom the assets end up, which remains to be seen.
Also, please don’t call me names.
I did not.

1·11 days agoWhy do you expect a tiny country to expose itself when others 100x more powerful won’t?
I don’t? They could have just stayed out of it but chose to “expose” themselves just now when it was convenient. If you’re not going to speak up against injustice then don’t, but then own it. Don’t come swooping down like a vulture once it’s safe and act like you’re all just and good and “for the people of Venezuela”.

57·11 days agoEverybody who has to work for a living is part of the working class. Further division is just “divide et impera” by the owners.

The same neoliberals are in power in Europe, and the same redistribution of wealth from below to the top happens in Europe. All over Europe they tell us we have to work more, earn less, our social services are too expensive, and “what are you talking about, rich people should pay taxes, are you insane?”
If you truly believe the working class is not being choked in Europe you’ve got to open your eyes. They are just a bit more subtle about it over here.
