3DPrinting@lemmy.world•what does your "workshop" look like?English
2·2 days agoI bought a couple 30" deep 6’ long butcher block counter tops. I coated them with polyurethane sealer and mounted them to the wall with 24" deep brackets mounted to the wall studs. So I have a huge amount of desk space without any clutter of legs underneath. By making it myself, I made the height the exact size for my body. The thick butcher block and stud mounting makes the desk more rigid than any typical store desk/table.
On the wall is multi board that has 3d printer tools and Gunplamark’s ultimate cereal dryboxes.

2·3 days agoPatrick seemed to be characterized as equivalent to Dustin Hoffman’s Rain Man. He was very intelligent but completely unable to function without support.
I suspect the idea was that all three were like that but needed to be shown to be different for TV characterization reasons. They each had only a few minutes of screen time so they have to be distinguishable as separate characters in that limited screen time.

741·3 days agoI doubt it will matter much. Like GPUs, prices during the crunch doubled. After the crunch prices went down ~20%. Everyone cheered that the shortage was over. No one seemed to notice that everyone was still paying 1.8X more.
So ram is up like 4x. After the shortage prices will drop 25%. People will be paying 3x for ram and think everything is great.

Just Post@lemmy.world•Online world is weird when you're a 40+ year old nerd
7·5 days agoPeople rather spend hours arguing online about who is evil and who is good instead of reading some bare minimum philosophy and doing a bit of introspection,
This isn’t new. This was happening on Fidonet and newsgroups in the 1980’s. The only thing that has changed is that everyone is online now.

13·5 days agoIt’s not Russian propaganda to point out that both Russia and Ukraine are losing all their tanks to drones.
It was Ukraine that innovated on the battlefield and made tanks obsolete.

Not any more. They use Chinese water pumps and Mexican control boards that are $600 to replace.
Nope.
you can still buy a washer dryer set that will last a lifetime.
What brand? Because I’ve researched Speed Queen extensively and that’s not the answer. (They now all have Chinese manufactured water pumps with Mexican control boards that use the same components as Samsung.)
I just watched the Ben’s Appliances teardown.
Having looked at many appliances I don’t think it is true. I spent 4x for a high end Bosch that died in 3 years just like the Kitchenaid it replaced. I replaced it with another Bosch and discovered the new model took away buttons and put behind a cloud app. Miele pushes lock in with their own custom detergents for their Dishwashers and Laundry machines. You end up paying more for less reliability now.
I am still considering a Speed Queen which will be $5000 for a set compared to a $1600 LG but have read many stories of lemon Speed Queens. They might be built with large struts and thick stainless steal, but they now all have Chinese manufactured controller boards that are $700 to replace. My Maytag’s controller board was $150.
The cheap models of appliances are now the reliable ones because they are simple. And when they fail they are cheap to repair.
What are the bits in front of the monitor? One is a clock but what about the rest?
I just fixed heat creep because the extruder spring retainer had cracked a little. Filament wasn’t being fed at the correct rate.
