It wouldn’t surprise me if he was into abusing slaves because it was a good ol’ boys’ club. Franklin did inherent several slaves, got to know them, realized they were people, freed them, then became an abolishinist.

At the end of the day, however, he still agreed with the 3/5ths. Compromise. And he was still buddies with monsters like Washington and Jefferson. Otherwise, everything we know about his sexual history points to him wanting older women, which is part of why he wanted the ambassadorship to France.

  • If you need to change a lightbulb, and said lightbulb is 20 feet above you, neither a 9 foot nor 10 foot ladder will allow you to get there. The end result is the same, even if both ladders are different and one gets you closer. The hard but practical solution is to find a ladder that can actually reach the bulb!

Malcolm X said the same thing after his return from Mecca:

If you stick a knife in my back nine inches and pull it out six inches, there’s no progress. If you pull it all the way out that’s not progress. The progress is healing the wound that’s below, that the blow made. And they haven’t even begun to pull the knife out, much less pull, heal the wound…

They won’t even admit the knife is there.

And of course this fuck-fuck lib defending Hitler doesn’t know both MLK and Malcolm X were assassinated during Democrat administrations. Or how Fred Hampton, Huey Newton, and the Black Panthers were being undermined by the FBI during the same time period. Hampton was assassinated under a Republican, but only a year after LBJ left office. The plot to have him killed started long before his actual death.

“Easier to organize under liberals over conservatives” my ass.

  • It’s a perfect example of liberal idealism. They ignore how the world actually is, instead treating identical actions and outcomes as somehow different based on vibes.

We’ve seen what a democratic supermajority looks like. It’s one where Romneycare becomes national policy, Roe v. Wade isn’t codified, and the Bush Doctrine is expanded. Yet somehow, things would totally be different in the year of our Lord 2026 anno dominoes pizza, as if Biden’s administration wasn’t an extension of Trump.

  • Yeah definitely worth holding on to.

Back when tournaments didn’t allow sleeves, you couldn’t use miscut or crimped cards because they were visible. So, a lot of people would throw away their “damaged” Alpha/Beta cards. Very, very few survived to today. That means whenever you encounter a crimped or miscut piece of Power 9, it’s either a fake or you’re looking at a $20,000+ bill.

  • It looks like the foiling was affected by a booster pack during the packaging process. When booster packs are made, the ends of the packs are heated and then crimped to seal the cards inside. Sometimes, cards get caught or the heat from this causes misprints to occur.

My guess is the ink on the card was affected when a still hot booster was placed across it and it wasn’t caught by quality control. Often when stuff like this happens, the card/booster is thrown out, making it actually quite valuable.

It’s not going to be worth as much as a crimped or miscut card. But it’s still worth more than a regular version because the inking is off. Even better is that it’s foil.

  • Sad to see Entomb banned. It’s been a staple of the format for decades, but I’m not sure what else they could do. Was really hoping for a One Ring and Orcish Bowmasters ban so I don’t have to shell out $200 per playset of cards not on the reserve list, so I guess I’m in the reprint waiting room. It would be easier to get ahold of Revised duals and play other decks. Like I could trade $400 for getting both cards or just get a Tropical Island.

The Nadu ban was obvious. Power levels aside, it has the same problem as Sensei’s Divining Top of slowing games down and causing tournaments logistical issues. What a fuckup of a card.

What I’m really surprised on is no changes to Timeless. I’ve been enjoying playing decks with 4x Necropotence, 4x Memory Jar, or 4x Strip Mine, but to me it seems these cards should have been restricted from the get-go. I guess the data doesn’t support that, however.

Strip Mine is likely filling in where Wasteland would be similar to how it functions in '93/'94 format where there’s arguments for and against its restriction. But Jar and Necro? These are self-contained draw engines that will only grow stronger as more cards are added to Arena. All it takes is something like Hymn to Tourach or Snuff Out to really push Necropotence over the edge, for example, and there’s already turn 1 wins available for both.

  • The format’s power level is still too high so I think you’re right. The only way to fix Standard is to systemically and deliberately lower power levels similar to what was done after Urza’s block and Mirrodin block. R&D has doubled-down on FIRE design, however, with the philosophy of “If a card gets out of hand, we can just ban it.”

Really wish I could rub their faces in MaRo’s post-Affinity ban article from 20 years ago where he talks about why bans are bad, even when they’re necessary. There’s a reason no one is playing Standard anymore. I suspect WotC is juking their stats to maintain the lie Standard events are firing in order to appease shareholders.
