I’ll bite; what are these six other AAA games in April?

Really enjoyed the demo, it’s a solid game but as stat trek games it’s great, from what I played. Can’t afford the full price game yet but when I do I’ll feedback on a post here some thoughts maybe for people curious.

I’ll be honest & think between their tiny team, it almost certainly wasn’t much of a priority at all. Though from what I’ve seen of Ed, I don’t think he’d care enough to change it if he was made aware

The article itself seems to state that they were most likely asked before the people became problematic. Given the game has been in development for 12 years & Ed most likely asked a huge plethora of Internet personalities, I’m surprised there aren’t more.

Regardless of controversial meows, the escapist starting the article with “a backlash is rising” feels like they’re admitting they’re fanning the flames of Internet drama for traffic to their site.

Honestly what I think happened is, in the lead up to the game awards there was a lot of talk about the cost of slots & I imagine the final of the show cost a pretty penny. Then I think no one was willing to buy said slot so the haphazardly shoved something in a lot closer to the event then the usually would. I doubt this was anyone’s first choice.

Not to muddy the water but there’s also cataclysm: bright nights & cataclysm: the last generation as alternative forks as cataclysm is an open projects & c:dda devs are known for… interesting choices & attitudes so its good to look around at the forks to which variant is more for you!
Also they’re all free from their github pages, I really would not recommend if you do go for cdda, buying it on steam.
I just think this is going to be a bit of a mess no matter what way it goes. People have such a different idea of what this game is now based on the riot drive.
& I can’t help but think that’s kinda the point of buying it, because you only need to sell it in one burst of hype to make a quick buck, look at cube world for example.
Also the game has been sold off once, if someone like M$ came knocking, even just to kill it, you think if he makes a huge profit off the purchase, he’ll say no?
I think a lot of people have been waiting for this & the hype around it is just going to lead to disappointment.

Except we already know that he’s willing to sell, so if MS came knocking, i bet it’d be just a question of how much. If it can get off its feet of course.

I played it for a bit, it’s a tech demo through & through. Looks good, ui & other features such as controls need dialing in but they’ve stated for it they’re just getting the ground work in. Can’t really say to much about it because it’s just a tech demo but what I can say is I’m a little sceptical about how this game will fund itself.
Now I need to prefix this with I really don’t care Dean left dayz, some people really latch onto this but either way the best thing that happened to dayz was Dean leaving.
What bothers me is how much work has been put into the “Donation” website, feels like it’s been really engineered so they can capture 100% of the “donations” because Dean hates the 30% store fronts. The website itself feels really gamified, with daily, weekly & monthly “donations” & a banner vomiting out live donos & analytics & total raised. I’m just skeptical this isn’t an attempt to tap into a niche market, Robert Space industry style.

The C:DDA devs almost feed off of being antagonistic. I’m so glad BN & TLG got spun off as their own cataclysm forks because the Core devs of DDA are really quiet negative.

I’m a bit confused, wasn’t this announcement ages ago? Is it coming out soon?
Edit: yeah it was announced in December 2023, I thought I was going crazy there.

I’m excited for kenshi 2, even if I’m beyond wary of it being made in Unreal engine…

For a second there I thought that amazon had bought the rights to star trek…

I thought it was a good lighthearted community in-joke, better night posts at all

Yeah maybe but I imagine she’ll deffo return when she can yo do what she can.

The other dev is the ain’t devs wife & had to take time off to rest after a botched surgery. Whether they return is up to where there health is but the focus is getting better. Can cut out the kotako fluff & get all the deets from the games’ steam updates section.
I think I’m like 1 of 5 people that played and enjoyed midtown madness 3 on xbox. Last time I looked emulation had forgotten it, wonder if this can run it!

I had such high hopes for starbound but it just kept falling short through development to its current release.
I got in on the crowdfunding they did on their own website & enjoyed the idea of the road map they laid out. Unfortunately one thing that became apparent fast through development was how much they wanted to distance themselves away from terraria, to the point it felt they took worse development paths if it meant they achieved this.
I had a lot of fun with the first version of the game which was a lot more aggressive with the survival, heat & food & drink mechanics but I understood why they revised that because to capture a larger audience I could see those mechanics needed to be toned down. Then the game just kept getting revision after revision & every time it just felt worse for the overall game.
What we have now is a fine & competent game that feels rather disinteresting overall & a shadow of the concept it was trying to reach.
Even the modding scene can’t really elevate it too much & the game has a horrid taint after the unpaid contributer stuff.
No but that’s what the article is talking about, even touching on that there were indie releases in April but pragmata has a wide birth, with only the Diablo 4 dlc to contend with.
