this is the best news I’ve heard all day

“Chinese cars are basically spies on four wheels”
I’m sorry to tell you but that’s basically all modern cars now, not just China’s.

I can tell, but that’s because I can read both. Someone who’s never learnt either language probably can’t tell the difference between the sinographs, but could distinguish the language based on presence of hiragana, which are distinctly rounder and less dense

nice! is that the old dwarf fortress world map graphics on your banner?
true but also maybe a little goomba fallacy
orbpossums. come on OP, it was right there
I wasn’t aware of this policy. thanks for sharing!
that was a fun little math exercise! it’s been a while since I’ve had to do this
yeah my Sable client just doesn’t show that. Though it shows that star icon as “Steal Sticker” in the right click menu. Not the same as favoriting.
I wasn’t aware Sable had mobile clients, but it seems like it’s only available on sideloaded app stores on iOS. Automatically a dealbreaker for any friends/family that has an iPhone probably. I’m not in the EU so it looks like they’d need to go through a whole process of installing something on their PC and using a VPN on their phone just to get the app store…
As far as Matrix clients in the Apple app store go, I’m only aware of Element X and Fluffychat, and since Element X didn’t support custom emotes/stickers when I last checked, that leaves Fluffychat as their only option for a mobile app. (Please don’t try and suggest web apps, no one wants to actually use those)
https://fluxer.app/blog/how-i-built-fluxer
The main dev has maintained that Fluxer is not vibe coded. Whether or not they’re completely AI-free though, I’m unsure of. But at the very least they didn’t just ask Claude “give me a discord like chat app” and then shove that onto the internet.
pretty! though it makes me feel like I need to put my glasses on, lol
I do personally use Sable and Matrix to chat with some of my friends. I think it’s really cool. However, I don’t think it’s user friendly enough for mass adoption. There’s so many clients but none of them provide an ideal experience.
I send a voice message from sable to my friend using fluffychat on mobile? they can’t listen to it.
I try and call my friend through sable? their mic/camera doesn’t work and my screen share is a black screen.
No client I’ve seen allows you to favorite emotes or stickers
As far as I’m aware mobile clients simply don’t support calling
Videos just don’t play on my sable desktop client.
Maybe there’s solutions to these issues, but if each new user is expected to troubleshoot things like this, Matrix is never going to become widely used. I’m excited for Fluxer because it seems like it could really become the frictionless experience that Matrix isn’t

I tried watching it after hearing about it here a few times… I was shocked at how it’s basically just a comedy for rich white conservatives. If anything its message is supportive of fascism; the whole premise is that poor people are stupid and rich people are smart, and humanity 500 years in the future has gotten stupider because the rich people failed to control the poors and got “great replaced” by stupid poor people…
why anyone on Lemmy thinks it’s good is beyond me
Kate! I also mention it in the alt text for the image.
I pretty much just fresh installed CachyOS, choosing Niri on install. I’ve installed a few Gnome apps like their disk manager, but this is full-on Niri (as far as my knowledge goes— which isn’t very far tbf)

ah but you must be aware that the awakening of mana in humans will lead to wild animals awakening mana too. this in turn will cause most of the land on our planet to be overrun with beasts, while empowered birds and fish will make travel by boat/plane nearly impossible

trump style comment
I’ve been using matrix with a few people, and I like it conceptually. However, it’s definitely got some very rough edges. Mobile clients don’t seem to even support calling, and as I found out recently some homeservers just don’t support calling? custom emote/sticker support is client dependent and somewhat janky on all of them (no favoriting emotes, fluffychat not showing custom emotes with other emojis, etc.). I want it to be great but I just don’t see it being user friendly enough for mass adoption right now.
On the other hand, I’ve also been trying Fluxer. It’s a lot smoother of an experience, (aside from screen share), and I really see it as a great drop in replacement for discord with friend groups. But, it’s not got federation yet, and I don’t believe E2EE for DMs or voice calls is here yet either. I hope it can keep developing and deliver on these promises.
fuck you for posting this without an arachnophobia spoiler
