I suspect this is some kind of console error? I’ve only owned a SNES before becoming part of the PC master race, so just like the kids of today this early millennial has no idea what he’s looking at exactly.

4·4 days agoFor some I agree. But the response to the “I’m comfortable in my role” one I really dislike.
It should be fine to be satisfied with your position instead of having to eternally strife to a reach a higher step on the ladder. If that’s what somebody really wants, it’s ok and they should go for it. But for others that mindset will just end in a burnout and it should be applauded if they are able to recognise their limits. Work to live, not live to work.

1·8 days agoWell, it beats seeing Harry Kim pretending to play the clarinet. I wish I could say his technique needs work, but that would imply he has an inkling of an idea of what he’s doing.
To be honest, Mint is no better in that regard on my laptop. Closing my laptop and pulling the power adapter always results in the system not going to sleep mode, but remaining active. Opening it will actually cause it to resume going to sleep. Really annoying.

Progressive Politics@lemmy.world•[Video] ICE Chief Bovido and his goons get yelled out of a store after using the bathroom
2·13 days agoHis mug just screams “I’m a white supremacist nazi piece of shit”. Too bad you guys fought, bled and died here to rid us of that filth, only to have it infect your own society now.
Yes. Because I’m absolutely in a position to do anything about this, seeing I live at the other side of the world and do not have the American nationality. NSFW would have been nice.
Having said that, fuck ICE. Hopefully they’ll end up in a gutter after your current regime collapses.

31·16 days agoI agree, don’t forget the “it’s Israel” narrative fits snuggly in the story provided by the Iranian regime.
Reminds me of the time I ran a FreeBSD webserver from home, compiling Apache from source took the better part of a day. But still good times, learned a lot from that experience.

2·17 days agoDon’t worry, he is going to ACE the eye test. It’s going to be the BEST eye test RESULT the optician has ever seen in his life and they’ll be left in tears because of the glorious results.
And don’t forget those tests can be HARD! You’ve got A’s and B’s and lots of little lines and blobs that are hippo’s and giraffe and lions. And you have to know all these animals and recognise them to be a good president.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•3.5" floppy disks were peak tactile feedback in storage: easy to stick in, drives had a button to immediately eject them, big enough to get labels, thin enough that stacks didn't take too much space
1·18 days agoLess if you were sensible and included an error correction scheme to combat the unreadable sectors that were bound to pop up after a while. I can be quite nostalgic, but if there is one thing I don’t miss it’s the ‘reliability’ of floppies.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL the city of Amsterdam is actually built on millions of wooden piles instead of solid groundEnglish
6·20 days agoPersonally I prefer Utrecht or Leiden. Although Amsterdam has more to offer in terms of larger/more renowned tourist attractions, I’ve always enjoyed the vibe in those cities more. Amsterdam is too busy, it smells and it’s way too commercial for my taste.
But of course I’m probably biased, I grew up near Leiden and studied in Utrecht. So I spent quite some time there.
Most problems are caused on the longer term and that damage can be quite insidious. N2O deactivates vitamine B12, which ultimately causes nerve damage, especially for heavy users. Symptoms can be stuff like tingling extremities, muscle weakness and paralysis and can become irreversible with continued usage. The problem is that the early symptoms can be easily disregarded, while the damage is slowly building up.
The first laptop I bought had a DVD burner which came with support for LightScribe, which required discs with a special coating. You designed a cover, put the disc in your drive upside down and it would burn the image into the disc. You could only do grayscale as far as I know, but I still thought it was pretty neat at the time.

Games@lemmy.world•We'll probably never see a Grand Theft Auto set in a futuristic city like GTA 2 because the team "hated it": "People didn’t connect with the game or its city"English
5·25 days agoThe gang wars mechanic put me off SA, same as the friends in GTA IV that keep demanding you go bowling with them while you are in a car chase with the police. It felt forced and screwed with the flow of the game by forcing you to stop whatever you were enjoying at that moment or deal with the consequences.
Vice City is also my favourite, great selection of music tracks, great 80’s vibes and it wouldn’t forcefully try to pull you out of your flow at random intervals.
