Nakam was a group of about 50 Holocaust survivors. After 1945, they wanted revenge for the murder of 6 million Jews. The leader was Abba Kovner. The group planned to kill 6 million Germans.

Plan A was to poison the water supply in Nuremberg and other German cities. Kovner went to Palestine to get poison. He was arrested on the way back. He had to throw the poison overboard. So Plan A failed.

Then they made Plan B. They targeted German prisoners of war held by the US Army. They got arsenic and infiltrated a bakery that supplied the Langwasser camp near Nuremberg. On April 13, 1946, they poisoned 3,000 loaves of bread. The bread was for SS prisoners. More than 2,000 prisoners got sick. But no one died. The amount of arsenic was enough to kill about 60,000 people. No one knows why it didnt kill anyone. Maybe the poison was spread too thin.

After the war, German prosecutors opened a case against two members in 2000. But they dismissed it because of unusual circumstances. The group members said they were not sorry. They said the Germans deserved it.
