A lot of people just don’t care. The only reason why is that it simply doesn’t affect them. The lack of compassion is very sad.
Ed Sheeran’s response today was pathetic.
“I am appalled by the conflict between Israel and Palestine,” he wrote in the first of several bullet-point statements. “The suffering and pain caused on both sides is a human tragedy. There are too many wars across the world causing immeasurable pain, none of which should be tolerated.”
Both sides bullshit.
Sweaty, it’s a genocide. Not a “conflict”.

Why do we expect anything more? Not a fan or hater of Ed Sheeran, but he’s built his career, afaict, on being studiously inoffensive.

We are past the point where you can abstain from taking a side. By being silent, and then silencing someone that was vocal about it, he is taking Israel’s side.
That it is. It appears that Ed Sheeran’s live band along with the opening act and several other musicians have dropped out of the tour based on this statement today.

I guess I’m just pushing back against the fauxmoi’ish tendency to ignore that celebrity is an artificial construct. These people are not your friends and their public pronouncements are carefully planned and orcestrated to maximally benefit themselves. And even if they’re not, it’s a healthy exercise to think about if they are.

Celebrity is an artificial construct, but it still exists. Assuming that people who follow popculture think celebrities are friends and don’t put thought into the image celebrities build for the public is insulting.
Celebrity obsession is kinda weird; I’d hesitate to say a parasociality is not a big component.
Have you actually been to the original Fauxmoi subreddit? It’s not celebrity obsession and they’re rather based there.
I’m aware that having an interest in popculture is seen as a negative here in the Fediverse. Not everyone who is interested in popculture is obsessed or parasocial about consuming celebrity news. It’s entertainment news and while the celebrity construct is a manufactured one, it still exists and can be a litmus test on how large swaths of the population are reacting to things happening in the world.
I generally enjoy conversing with you here. For the sake of continuing to be cordial and have interesting conversations, can you take a step back and acknowledge that following celebrity gossip isn’t an indication that a person is an obsessed and parasocial fan.
I didn’t say you were obsessed or unaware, I’m just saying there’s a tendency in these spaces to be obsessed, though perhaps not unaware.
I guess I’m coming at it from the standpoint of celebrity being very strictly gatekept by powerful people, and the mere fact of being celebrity should make us suspicious of the person. As far as my comments applied to you personally, it’s from my reading earnest disappointment in your complaint about Ed Sheeran instead of jaded non-surprise.

I’m happy to hear that rest of Sheeran’s tour partners have dropped out in solidarity with Macklemore. Sheeran looks exactly like the cowardly worm he is. The tide has definitely turned against the Zionist project.

I’m surprised that the stan accounts even said anything considering how many people still carry water for celebrities (looking at you Chris Brown fans).
