If Trump’s revolting face goes on a banknote, he will leave a stain on the country that cannot be concealed. It will persist long after the rein of his regime. Congess will use their precious time to decide whether a law should be overturned in order to stoke Trump’s ego and infuriate pro-humanity people. Currently the law does not allow living people to be printed on banknotes. The law also does not allow for a denomination of $250, so republicans will argue that an act of Congress is needed anyway.
It’s quite sickening because when Trump’s term ends at least half the country wants him out of sight and out of mind.
They are calling this a “commemorative” banknote. Does that mean fewer of them?
Note to shop owners: you will legally be able to refuse the banknote if it’s for a point of sale. But not if it’s used to pay a debt.
I would fucking love it if this issue would motivate dems to the polls this year to try to vote republicans out of Congress just to stop Trump’s face becoming a permanent stain on USD money.
Bessent’s face looks like an SNL parody of the US Treasury Secretary.
I legit thought that was Will Farrell
Could also be Dana Carvey. Seriously, do a quick search for Dana Carvey.
Reminds me of Jeb Bush
I would suggest using religion against the religious and point out that this is a form of idolizing, but using the Bible against them has become pointless. I read earlier about a pastor being critiqued for preaching liberal talking points, and he was using the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus Christ.
They don’t care. All of their stated beliefs are masks on top of “in group good out group bad”. That’s the only constant.
“Sorry, we don’t accept anything bigger than $100.”
Kinda rather they make it a $1000 so they struggle to get and spend them.
$1k bills were printed at one point. I believe they were only used in bank-to-bank transactions… IIRC. But note that the purpose of the $250 note is to mark the 250 year anniversary.
The law doesn’t allow living people on banknotes. There’s the loophole repuglicans, get shooting!
Along the same lines, I was thinking let’s offer Trump a deal: he can have his face on the banknote this year if he personally does the necessary to ensure compliance with that law. I would be less outraged by his face on notes if he would take that deal.
The only sideways-ancillary “good” about this stupid situation, is how few people use cash.
If I still worked retail and someone handed this shit to me, I would have a very difficult time stopping myself from tearing it up in front of them.
Retail training voice: Instead of saying “No I won’t accept your monopoly money you complete dumbass!” Try saying “Sorry, we don’t accept bills over $50.”
New dem admin should make this an Obama bill, with him in the Pools Closed stance
You know, it would be a missed opportunity if Saturday Night Live doesn’t do a skit using Chris Parnell about this.
