Am I doing the math wrong? If he was 80 years old, he was born in 1946. VE day was in 1945. How could he be a Holocaust survivor?
He probably hadn’t had his birthday yet this year. His mother may have had him shortly before VE day, in one of the death camps.
Edit: reading the article, he may have been a Holodomor survivor?
That’s what it sounds like. I have heard people call the holodomor the Ukrainian holocaust, IIRC.
Wish I knew more about his holocaust experience. 80-years really pushes the limits for claiming direct experience/survival, but I’m sure he would have grown up in the after effects…
