Longtime listener, longtime lurker on the sub, first time poster.

I was just listening to Episode 187: Oh Good, The Explosion Understanders Have Logged On.

First of all, I absolutely agree with their take (as usual) on the astonishing amount of misinformation and hot takes on the events in ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine and how these self anointed explosive ordnance experts are spewing nonsense within minutes of events.

I know tensions are high and nerves are stretched but it really rubbed me the wrong way when Jesse said the following, when talking about online misinformation:

“Libs of TikTok, is responsible for so much hate and anger and violence.”

This hysterical statement is in contrast to the general message of the podcast: words are not violence, “rough or injurious physical force, action, or treatment” is violence.

Libs of TikTok is an account that re-publishes and mocks content that leans (heavily) left-wing/woke (probably some of it fake or parodied) and is not responsible for violence. It might inspire hate, but that can be said about so many online creators. People who perpetrate violence are responsible for violence.

It felt like a lame attempt to balance the discussion along the left/right political axis and it undermines BARpods message when they fall into the same trap as the people they ridicule.
