Do you meet a lot of people who claim to be able to astrally project? I don’t recall ever hearing someone claim that they can outside of a fictional setting.
The only thing I know about astral projection is that it’s a lot like remote login.
I imagine you’d have to spend more time on Tumblr. I’ve also never met anyone who claims to be an otherkin, but it’s just the circles we surround ourselves with.

A person who was also level 2 Reikki (?) healer claimed to both astral project and being able to “summon” memories of earlier reincarnations. She seemed totally normal unless you asked about spritiuality or something adjacent. She did believe homeopathy was humbug but that chiropractors could cure depression. We was friends for long time until we drifted apart due to moving towns

Astral projection is basically imagination which is known as true in creating things in various philosophies. Imagine what would it be in a forbidden place and done, it exists, on some level.
We know the place exists, just saying that you can’t send your fucking consciousness there
