    Which is also why I never understood the “you don’t fully die / your soul ceases to exist, when the last person forgets about you”. What happens when an archeologist digs up information on you thousands of years later? Does your soul just pop back into existence in the afterlife?

      I’m pretty sure the adage never meant to imply anything about an afterlife. It’s not about souls “ceasing to exist”, it’s about the lingering effects of our life beyond our death. I always read it as intended to comfort those facing the finality of death, or dealing with the death of someone else.
