  • I just hit it againt the counter until the peal breaks then it starts behaving like a bouncing ball. I keep playing with the ball until the shards are small enough and then pull the peal that now is more like a skin.

Then wash it with running water to get rid of the remaining shards. This step helps cooling down the egg which after boiling is too hot anyway, but you can probably skip and just pull the remaining shards manually it if you are one of those people who can stand and prefer things superhot.

  • Steaming on a web browser won’t work well, but if you can download the file and open it with mpv, or open dev tools and find the stream URL and send it to MPV then it should play fine.

Also I second xfce, any distro will do, I still recommend upgrading to ssd if you can, it’s a HUGE performance increase whatever the specks of the machine are.

  • At very least use VeraCrypt, not backdoored bit locker.

Still, Windows has an universal backdoor, Microsoft can copy the keys from memory (together with all your files or access your camera/mic at any moment. If you have to use windows, I recommend never letting it connect to the internet. Or else use GNU/Linux and luks.

(Note that I meant that MS can copy the keys from memory from any internet connected unlocked device, they can’t unlock a very crypt encrypted system if they haven’t used the backdoor previously to extract the key).

The point is, don’t expect any privacy from windows, unless it’s isolates from the internet.

  • 128kbps mp3, that is straight up nasty unless your whole library is black metal

I think 128kbps mp3 has a really bad reputation because most people associate it with those early 2000s encodes, a modern 128kbps file encoded with a modern version of LAME will sound pretty good imo, technically not as good as an opus or vorbis at the same bitrate, but still only noticeable when compared side by side in a very good listening environment.

  • Duck.ai is a saas, I can never be 100% sure that information sent to it is private, the only way to use an LLM privately is to run it locally.

Do you think it really doesn’t train on your data?

That is very unlikely, duck.ai doesn’t brew it’s own in-house AI, they run models made by third parties like Mistral, Facebook and openAI.

As far as non-local LLM inferencing goes, I think duck. Ai offers the most privacy-friendly service.

While it’s impossible to warranty privacy, you can warranty anonymity, because duck.ai is accessible over tor.

  • What’s wrong with just using a phone and playing from it’s memory or micro SD card? Why do people insist on streaming even from a home server?

Buying a high end DAP seems like an unnecessary expense in 2026.

Does your phone have a small internal memory and no card slot? In that case you can still probably find an old phone with micro SD and a replacement battery for much cheaper than a high end music player.

I have a 512 GB microsd on my phone and more music than I can possibly listen in a lifetime on it.

I have 128kbps mp3 and 64kbps opus on it, and seriously, that’s more than enough bitrate for outside use. Whatever loss in quality those files may have, it’s undistinguishable in most situations people usually use personal music players for.

Music player Go, is the only app (on Fdroid) that I know that can handle my library tho, all others tend to crash.

And don’t forgot to install James DSP.

For old phones RockBox for android works well.

  • WTF… Dude… Idk what kind of mental gymnastics the marketing team of that “kagi” service had to make in order to actually convince you, it’s only single user to pay for it, but if you have to login to use a web search then it offers less privacy than whatever alternative, even google.

I was reading though their FAQ and they actually try to rationalize that lack of results isn’t a bug it’s a feature…

Besides, there’s no point in posting a link for it here, since no-one here will be able to open it.

  • At some point I used to pay for it (I have a costum domain), but then I ran out of money and couldn’t pay. I had the old price too, which was 12 Euros a year.

Now I think the price is the same as proton so if I were to pay for email again, I would probably get proton instead, because proton supports GPG and I think tuta doesn’t.

In the end it doesn’t matter because 100% of my contacts either use gmail, outlook or some business server and I don’t know anyone who uses GPG.

  • US , EU and FR variants.

Side question: Why do people buy baguettes? Do they make sandwiches with them?

Sometimes, sometimes just eat with butter. They make good toasts too.

How do you even make a sandwich from them?

Just cut it open and put the ham and cheese inside it, not much to it really. Either cut the slice in half if I’m feeling poor or fold it in two if I’m feeling rich.
